The Gong is the feature race in NSW on Saturday and it will be taking place at the Kembla Grange Racecourse.
The $1 million race will be run over the 1600m and it has attracted a very nice field of gallopers.
We’ve previewed this race and every other on the card and our tips can be found below.
This Godolphin colt by Exceed and Excel is making his racing debut in the first event of the afternoon. He has had two trials leading into this and he has drawn perfectly in barrier three with McEvoy steering.
From a good draw I think Sneak Preview can be scrubbed along and take the lead in this race. The four year old gelding won a class 1 at Dubbo last start and there is no better front running rider than Clark.
Plaisir has managed to string together two wins on the trot and although this is quite a step up in class, I think the Choisir gelding can run a nice race at big odds. He has an awkward style however Chris Williams seems to get the get out of him and he also gets the weight relief as an apprentice.
Lucicello is a talented young horse who has managed three wins from her seven starts so far in her short career. Her last start win at this level was full of merit and she rises only slightly in weight. She has drawn well in barrier 3 and will take some beating!
Matowi was racing very well last prep and has form around some very good horses. You can forget his first up run at Rosehill as he was shuffled back and had no luck in running. He was doing his best work late and he will appreciate the step up in distance.
El Dorado Dreaming is the only Group 1 winner in this field and her effort behind Reelem In Ruby last start at Rosehill was full of merit. She has been set for this race which is a big bonus for mine as opposed to some others where this is an after thought for races like the Golden Eagle and she looks the one that fits the profile for me. Drawn well in barrier five with McEvoy on.
I am a big fan of this lightly raced Sebring mare and this seems the perfect time of year for her. I think she can continue to work through the grades and this looks a really nice race for her to begin her prep. Looks over the odds to my eye.
Ljunberg drops back down in class after being soundly beaten at his last two at benchmark 88 level. The I Am Invincible gelding has a tricky gate to overcome however the drop back to 1200m suits and he represents good value.
Destiny’s Own was beaten only 1.4 lengths behind Outrageous at Rosehill first up and he generally takes a step forward at his second run. He has drawn well in barrier 7 and with even luck he will be fighting out the finish.
