2019 Festival Stakes Day Tips & Preview

The Group 3 Festival Stakes is the feature race at Rosehill on Saturday as we enter Summer Racing in Sydney.

We have run through every race on the card and offered our thoughts and predictions below.

Race 1: Sky Racing Active Handicap (1100m) 1:15pm
#3 Chilliwack

Chilliwack will be making his racing debut in this race and has been well supported in betting. The Exceed and Excel colt was an easy winner of his most recent trial and was not asked to lengthen whatsoever.

Race 2: Highway Handicap (1200m) 1:50pm
#5 Bullet Speed

Bullet Speed is a very lightly raced four year old Snitzel gelding who is coming off a 4th at Doomben last time out. He has just the two starts to his name with the one win and Matt Dunn has made a habit of coming town south and winning these Highway races. Happy to be with him at the current price.

Race 3: Highway Handicap (1200m) 2:25pm
#11 Polish Train

Polish Train has won just two of her 16 race starts to date however she won those two late in her prep last time in. She was a long way behind them at Quirindi first up and she made up enormous ground late when she stormed home to finish sixth. She is well over the odds here from a good barrier.

Race 4: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m) 3:00pm
He's A Hotshot

He’s A Hotshot was no match for Burning Crown at Newcastle last start however he was ding his best work late and finds an easier field in this race. He has drawn perfectly in barrier four and Nash Rawiller stays on top which is a good sign.

Race 5: Ranvet Handicap (1100m) 3:40pm
#2 Ljunberg

Ljungberg will be asked to carry the big weight and come from the wide gate in this race however he is a horse with a fair amount of ability. The I Am Invincible gelding has been competitive in a higher grade of race than this one in the past and I think he will go very close with any luck.

Race 6: Listed ATC Cup (2000m) 4:20pm
#2 Taikomochi

I don’t see a lot of pace in this race and I think Tim Clark can take full advantage of an easy run on the speed. The Snitzel gelding was not up to them in The Gong last week however he was not beaten far at Listed level the start before that. Will take some chasing.

Race 7: Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) 5:00pm
#7 Siren's Fury

Siren’s Fury was absolutely flying when he resumed in The Hunter and a repeat performance could see him be right in the finish here. His racing pattern requires a fair amount of pace in the race however he is a two time Group 3 winner and Tim Clark jumps back on board which is a positive.

best bet
Race 8 - Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) 5:40pm
#1 Bon Amis

You’d love to own him. Bon Amis rarely puts in an ordinary run and he was very impressive when chasing home Savatiano in The Hunter first up. He maps to get a nice run in transit and this looks a perfect race for him second up.

Race 9: Mick Crook Memorial Handicap (1500m) 6:15pm
#5 Miss Redoble

This looks a nice way to end the day. Miss Rodoble has won six of her 20 race starts including an open class race at Port Macquarie three back. Sh was not far away at Listed level before finding one better last time out at Newcastle. She has drawn much better here today and gets in well at the weights compared to a few of these. $7.00 is over the odds.
