How to Survive the NBA Season on a Budget

The NBA season tips off today with what should be an exciting double-header. Us, as well as TV corporations, have been robbed of a chance to watch Zion Williamson’s debut, but the late game between the Lakers and Clippers should be plenty of fun.

If you’re new to the sport or are looking to take the extra step from being a casual fan into jeopardizing all social interactions by watching basketball every hour of your life, there are a few easy hacks I can help you out with.

First off, NBA League Pass will set you back an arm and a leg. The $300 for every team and every game is a little steep, but the good news is there are several ways to still follow the league without sacrificing your family’s well-being.

If you aren’t into Reddit, it’s time to learn. r/NBA has over 2.7 million members, all of which post in-game highlights, interviews, Charles Barkley gaffs and the always timeless LeBron vs MJ debates.

Next, keep your eye on Twitter. If you don’t know what a “Woj Bomb” is, basically it’s any breaking news ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski tweets out. Also, there’s this thing called #NBATwitter, which is a bit like Reddit but with more highlights and foolish opinions.

Finally, the NBA is about much more than just basketball. At its core, it’s all about entertainment, and nobody does that better than the players.

Arena entrances are all the rage in the NBA as major media outlets film the likes of LeBron, James Harden and Kyrie Irving entering the building prior to game time. That mightn’t sound very interesting, but the outfits these guys come up with certainly are.

Since you’re now across Reddit and Twitter, make sure you keep an eye on leaguefits, an Instagram page dedicated to NBA fashion. Some outfits are creative, some are ugly – but what they all have in common is a very expensive price tag.

The NBA continues to grow in popularity here in Australia, so if you stick to these three tips, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a hardcore hoops expert.
