A fantastic card of racing awaits us at Royal Randwick this Saturday headlined by the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.
We have run through all nine races and offered our thoughts and betting suggestions below.
This is a tough start to the day so if you insist on having an early bet I would be with Black Wand. He has been a winner of these highway Handicaps in the past and has been freshened up with a trial in between runs.
Master Of Wine has been smashed in betting since markets opened. The last time he ran at this track and distance he ran second beaten 0.2 lengths to Wolfe who has gone on to become a fairly handy horse.
Asterius won at this grade last prep at Rosehill by 3.3 lengths and his first up record is good. $10 is over the odds.
Star Reflection is capable of a high rating performance on her day and his first up effort was very good. He generally takes a big step second up and the 1400m suits. $14 is over the odds.
It took until his seventh start to break through for his maiden win however Colada was very brave last start at Newcastle. He led the field until the shadows of the post in open grade racing carrying 61kg. He’s drawn well and if he can get an easy time in front, he will give us a good sight at nice each way odds.
I think Microphone has Cosmic Force in the talent department I just think the Snowden colt will be more forward at this stage with the one run under his belt. He is a well balanced horse with a fair amount of ability.
Nettoyer has put together three really promising runs this prep so far and she should be plenty fit for this step back in grade. She ran a nice 8th in the group 2 Guy Walter in the Autumn before backing up a week later in the Group 3 Aspiration over the 1600m at Randwick which she won. This is very similar task here and she has drawn perfectly in barrier 3. She has won only 3 of her 24 race starts but this race does look winnable for her.
I can’t possibly tip against Shadow Hero after his huge win in the Gloaming. Whatever beats him home will win the 2019 Spring Champion Stakes.
The Inevitable has won seven of his nine race starts and he has gone to another level this prep. His win at The Valley was one of the most impressive that I have seen for some time and the 1300m suits him to a tee. Nash Rawiller is a big plus and he will get a lovely run from barrier 4 just in behind the smart Mizzy.
Invictus Salute is a lightly raced four year old mare with a fair amount of upside. She won twice last prep. One of those wins was first up from a spell and she is right in this very open race. Hopefully we can finish the day on a good note.
