The Blue Sapphire Stakes has enjoyed steady improvement year-on-year since its inception, and there is little doubt that Wednesday’s edition is the strongest to date.
Some of the country’s best three-year-olds will seek their share in $500,000 and the contest is sure to see a couple of genuine Coolmore Stud Stakes contenders rise to the surface.
My 2019 Blue Sapphire Stakes tips can be found below.
Suggested Bets
- 2 Units straight out #10 Exhilarates
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Blueblood Exhilarates has returned to the track in typically excellent form this time and will take a power of beating into the 2019 Blue Sapphire Stakes. The daughter of Snitzel, out of Group 1 winner Samaready resumed for an easy win in the Group 3 Quezette in August, before repeating that performance and result in the Listed Atlantic Jewel. She ran into a red-hot Loving Gabby in the Group 3 Scarborough last time out, but I think she’ll only improve on that effort and has this lot covered on class alone.
Brooklyn Hustle looked a run short, though still decent when resuming in the Listed Poseidon and I think she’ll enjoy sharp improvement from the hit-out. The daughter of Starspangledbanner has shown above average ability throughout her lightly raced career and has form around some of the best of her age bracket. She’s drawn a peach in gate 5 and certainly would not look out of place fighting out the finish.
How about these names in the Blue Sapphire field? Plenty of hype has followed Dubious’s racing career and he looks ready to do something on Wednesday afternoon. He immediately stamped himself as a horse to follow when he won the Group 3 Breeders Plate on debut last year and he has returned several excellent performances and results since. His two runs this time in for fourth behind Bivoac in the Vain Stakes and second behind Dalasan in the Danehill have obviously been full of merit.
South Australia Li’l Kontra doesn’t know how to run a bad race and she looks a live chance of running a place at huge odds ($26/$5.40 at publish). The daughter of Krupt has recorded three wins and seven minors throughout her ten-start career so far and resumed for a close-up second over 1000m at Morphettville a fortnight ago. This is obviously a big step up in class and I am wary of some of these other horses, but I think this filly’s fitness edge might prove the difference.
