The very long journey to World Cup 2022 got off to a good start this morning with the Socceroos getting the job done over Kuwait with a 3-0 win in a hot 38-degree night.
The Socceroos looked a class above their opposition and the game was never in doubt.
Most of the Socceroos squad had 12 players who had 10 caps or less but the likes of captain Matthew Leckie’s brace and Aaron Mooy’s beautiful bolt made sure we got the three points in what will seem to be a never-ending journey to qualify for Qatar in three years’ time.
Coach Graham Arnold was full of praise after the game
“It was a fantastic win, you know a very positive start to the campaign and a lot of younger fresh faces that we’ve brought in over the last six months really stood up tonight,”
“We’re very proud of them.”

The 2019 NRL Season is OVER for Canberra Raiders rookie Hudson Young, copping an eight-game ban for eye-gouging and the “players code” is alive and well in the NRL judiciary with both players Young and Adam Pompey denying they made any contact with Pompey’s eyes.
It was a long night with the hearing lasting two and a half hours at the judiciary with Young looking a shattered man at the end of it.
He will miss Canberra’s entire NRL Finals campaign and at a minimum the first month of the 2020 season.
Young had priors which lead to the harsh penalty with the Raiders rookie earning five games earlier this year for making contact to Aiden Tolman’s eyes only three months ago.
The NRL counsel wanted a 10-12 suspension but they were able to argue it down to eight.
Raiders forward Hudson Young has been found GUILTY of dangerous contact with the eyes of Adam Pompey.
