Flirting hasn’t been seen at the races since May but is clearly a decent type and can break her maiden first-up at Wangaratta today. The Medaglia D’Oro filly didn’t miss a place through three starts in her debut prep and was last seen finishing a close-up second over 1000m at Cranbourne. She’s had the benefit of a couple of trials in the lead-up to this race and is drawn a peach.
Musicmaker has only made two appearances at the races so far but looks a horse on the up and can break her maiden at Wangaratta this afternoon. The Anthony Freedman-trained filly worked home well from the tail of the field to finish fifth at Geelong last time out, and there is little doubt that she’ll enjoy good improvement from the hit-out, while she can settle a little closer today from barrier 7 ($6 at publish).
Hapaira will carry winning form into the fifth at Wangaratta and is up to making it two in a row. The Maher & Eustace-trained mare has recorded two wins and a close-up second through only three career starts so far and this does look the next logical step for her to take. She could enjoy the run of the race from barrier 6 and with even luck, can win again.
Former Lindsay Park galloper Jawwaal will have his first start for Mitchell Beer this afternoon and looks tough to beat. The four-year-old son of Snitzel has performed well in races far harder than this one throughout his racing career and was last seen finishing in the middle of the pack at Pakenham in May.
