Bass will carry good improvement into his second campaign start at Geelong this afternoon and looks ready to win. The Deep Impact gelding mustered a smart turn of foot to run on late for second over 2100m at Sandown first-up, and there is little doubt that he’ll be far more effective with the run under his belt and over a mile and a half.
Mieszko has improved with two starts this time and looks ready to do something third-up at a price today ($6 at publish). The Ellerton & Zahra-trained gelding flew home from the tail of the field to finish fourth at Mornington last time out and any improvement off that effort would see him fighting out the finish in this company.
Hilo looks to be an above-average galloper and he can continue his rise through the grades at Geelong today. The Lonhro colt resumed for an impressive win from an on-pace position at Sandown and there is little doubt that he’ll only improve into this race. As long as he doesn’t need to do too much work to find a prominent position, he’ll take catching.
Cochada hasn’t been seen at the races since November, but he is a classy type and can make a winning return at Geelong this afternoon. The five-year-old son of Von Costa De Hero hasn’t missed a place in five career starts and was last seen winning the Country Cup at HQ on Oaks Day. He’s trialled extremely well in the lead-up to this race and will be ridden by regular hoop Craig Williams.
