Trevelyan has enjoyed a strong start to his racing career and looks well placed to record another win at Eagle Farm this afternoon. The Pierro gelding hasn’t missed a place at his last four starts, which included a slick win at this track and distance two starts back. There’s a couple of decent horses confirmed for a start here, but the $4 on offer for Trevelyan at publish does look a touch of overs.
Exhilarates could hardly have been more impressive when she easily won the Quezette Stakes first-up, and she’ll only improve second-up in the Atlantic Jewel. The well-bred filly has been an above average performer throughout her entire racing career so far and her resuming effort suggested that she is in for another glittering preparation this time. She’s drawn a peach in barrier 4 and will have the benefit of Craig Williams in the saddle.
Avilius is a class above his rivals in the Chelmsford Stakes and it looks his race to lose. The Pivotal gelding has been a revelation since arriving in Australia and has recorded several impressive wins in Group 1 company. There was a lot to like about the way he hit the line in the Winx Stakes first-up, in what was a reasonably luckless run and he’ll take huge improvement from that hit-out, while the rise in trip will also suit. He is my best bet of the day.
There’s plenty of legitimate stayers in the Feehan Stakes field, but Fifty Stars is a dead-set miler and I think that he’s up to winning. The former Weir, now Lindsay Park runner was outstanding during his autumn prep and won the Group 2 Blamey Stakes at HQ on good, as well at the Group 2 Ajax in Sydney on heavy. He’s as versatile as they come, and I don’t think that there’s any doubt at all that he’ll enjoy good improvement from his first-up run for sixth behind Mystic Journey.
