2019 NRL Grand Final Tips & Preview

Glory, the Provan-Summons Trophy and a place in the history books are all on the line when the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders meet in the 2019 NRL Grand Final.

There is no denying that the Roosters have been the competition’s benchmark for a couple of seasons now and while defending the NRL Premiership has proven to be an almost impossible task since the turn of the century, Trent Robinson’s men really do look more than capable of doing it.

The Raiders have ended a twenty five-year drought by fighting their way into the big dance and they will be eager to take one more enormous step for themselves, and for their long-suffering fans.

Wherever your loyalties lie, whoever you think will win and wherever the value lies, all sights will be on ANZ Stadium on Sunday evening. A preview of each team, our best bets and 2019 NRL Grand Final tips can be found below.

Sydney Roosters

The Sydney Roosters boast a plethora of genuine stars, potentially some future immortals and they are understandably firm favourites to win the 2019 NRL Premiership.

A large and mobile forward pack, rich with state and international representatives is complimented by some of the league’s best outside backs. With Cooper Cronk and Luke Keary steering the team around the park, it’s not hard to see why they have enjoyed so much success.

Following a mid-season slump that all but coincided with State of Origin, the Roosters have clicked into top gear and earned a week off after putting South Sydney to the sword in Week 1 of the finals. They have built and excellent rivalry with the Melbourne Storm recently, but there is no doubt that they have had the upper hand and they did enough to ice Saturday night’s preliminary final.

They will be supremely confident of getting the result and I think that they are worthy of $1.30 favouritism in 2019 NRL Premiership betting.

Suggested Bet: Latrell Mitchell Anytime Tryscorer ($2.25)

Canberra Raiders

The Canberra Raiders’ fairy-tale season has fittingly resulted in a Grand Final berth and as underdogs, there is virtually no doubt that they will have the support of every neutral supporter on Sunday.

The Viking Clap and what has become a fierce home ground advantage has been just as much a revelation as the Raiders’ squad in 2019. A lot of people pot Ricky Stuart each season, but he’s well and truly pulled a masterstroke by signing all of these pommies, while the emergence of Charzne Nicoll-Klokstad has also been vital. Jarrod Croker is arguably the most inspiration captain in the league and at the risk of sounding like an enormous cliché, they are a side that play for each other and for their fans each and every week.

They face an enormous task in toppling the Roosters, particularly in Sydney, but I think that all the pressure is on the reigning champions and that could very well play into the chances of the Green Machine.

There would be nothing better for rugby league than seeing the Raiders return to the top step, but they will need to pull out all of the stops if they are to do so in 2019.

Suggested Bet: Nick Cotric Anytime Tryscorer ($2.80)

Clive Churchill Medal Betting

The Clive Churchill Medal is awarded to the best on ground in the NRL Grand Final and is always one of our more popular markets. Luke Keary’s breathtaking performance was rightfully rewarded in 2018 and the Roosters five-eighth has been installed as a $9 chance to successfully defend the medal in 2019.

James Tedesco has enjoyed another prolific season that has already garnered the Player of the Series award in State of Origin and at publish, he is the $1.36 favourite to win Wednesday night’s Dally M Medal for the player of the season. He is also the $5 favourite to win the Clive Churchill Medal on Sunday and a typical performance is likely to see him salute.

Tip: James Tedesco ($5)

2019 NRL Grand Final Betting

Further to the ‘big’ markets, there’s plenty of value to be found in 2019 NRL Grand Final betting.

While the Raiders are sure to bring their entire arsenal on Sunday evening, I think that the Roosters’ class, depth and experience of this point of the season will prove to be the difference, and I am anticipating them scoring a few tries late in the picture.

Suggested Bets:

Roosters 13+ – $2.75
Highest Scoring Half (2nd) – $1.83
Roosters Total Tries (Over 3.5) – $2 BEST BET
