SUCH IS FYFE

Fremantle had an ordinary and uninspiring season finishing 13th and sacking their coach but that didn’t stop the All-Australian selectors naming Nat Fyfe has their captain.

There’s no doubt that on an individual level, Fyfe has had an awesome season and is a very good looking rooster but making him the skipper has most certainly raised a few eye brows.

The Brisbane Lions (proudly sponsored by Neds) managed to get a three All-Australian selections with Harris Andrews named Full back, Charlie Cameron at half-forward and Lachie Neale in the middle.

This is the first time since the early 2000’s the Lions have had this many All-Australian selections.

Garry Ablett and Dustin Martin are glaring omissions.

For a team that doesn’t play, the All-Australian selections is certainly a contentious issue.

KYRIGOS SAYS SOMETHING STUPID

Australian Tennis favourite loveable larrikin Nick Kyrigos has backflipped on his claim that the governing body, the ATP, is corrupt and instead just thinks they have double standards.

As a result of Kyrigos’s claims, the ATP launched an investigation, making old mate Nick change his mind.

Along with that Nick getting up umpires is always entertaining.

Nick Kyrigos let rip when asked about his fine for $113,000US for cracking the brazen bits in Cincinnati last month.

“The ATP is pretty corrupt anyway. I’m not fussed about it at all,” he said.

“I was fined 113,000 K for what? Why are we talking about something that happened three weeks ago when I just chopped up someone first round of a US Open?

“Have you ever sworn at someone before? You’re not an elite athlete … I’m just saying people get frustrated. It happens.”

As a result of the outburst and the extra claims of corruption, the ATP is looking at punishing Kyirgos further

“The comments made by Nick Kyrgios after his first-round match in New York will be assessed under the Player Major Offense provision under ATP Rules,” the ATP said in a statement.

BATTLE OF BROOKIE SPONSORED BY A BOOKIE

Manly management have tried to change the title of “The Battle of Brookvale” to the “Battle of Lottoland” in a leaked memo to this morning’s Daily Telegraph.

The letter from Manly chairman Scott Penn sent the letter demanding the players refer to their home ground as “Lottoland” not “Brookvale” or “Brooky”

Manly, who sold the naming rights of their iconic home to Lottoland a couple of years back, has extended the deal for a further couple of years.

The term “The Battle of Brookvale” has been part of NRL folklore since that infamous match between Manly and Storm back in Round 25 2011 which lead to an all-in brawl leading to sin-bins and a $50,000 fine.

No one in their right mind is calling the match “the battle of Lottoland”

However, if it was called “The Clashing of Neds” as is the Titans v Tigers, then it has some meaning and prestige.
