We are not far away from Spring and some of the stars of the turf start their assault on the carnival on this card.
Three time group 1 winner Alizee will have her first up assignment in the Group 2 Missile Stakes as she looks to add more black type to her resume.
We have previewed the full nine race program and offer our tips here.
Wimlah has been racing consistently this time in and the four year old Sebring mare can again be competitive in this contest.
Charlayne is a mare with plenty of natural ability. She should be ready to peak fourth up and she gets in very well at the weights in my opinion. The Sebring mare has drawn barrier 9 however with even luck, she can run a race at nice each way odds.
This is the first crack at 1800m for Onemore Sapphire however his recent runs suggest to me that the step up in trip should not be a problem. He has not been beaten more than a length at his last four trips to town for these highway races and I’m sure he will be there abouts again in a big field.
There isn’t a lot of value in the feauture race of the day. I can see Alizee being beaten and I really can’t see Le Romain being beaten into second. If you are having a bet, maybe the Exacta is the way to go.
I’ll always had a high opinion of the filly Anaheed who is already a dual Group 2 winner. She won the Sweet Embrace and the Percy Sykes in the Autumn and her most recent trial has shwon she has returned a bigger and more impressive three year old. She does have the big weight to contend with in her first up assignment however I think she can go on and be competitive in group 1 company later in the Spring.
I’m going to give Sweet Deal another chance here because I think she is a pretty smart mare. She showed her class when she ran within 1.4 lengths of Invincibella at Group 2 level in Queensland. She should be super fit, she has drawn well and she gets in well at the weights. All reasons to suggest she will be very tough to beat.
Nahuel ran up the backsides at crucial stages last start at Rosehill and it halted the momentum of the horse somewhat. This is his third run in this prep and he gets out to a more suitable distance. He can run a race at nice each way odds.
This is a hot little race but I’m happy to back two at double figure odds each way. Deity’s last start effort first up was very good behind Catesby and the step up to 1200m will only suit.
I can’t work out why Stella Sea Sun is as long a price as she is (a false favourite I guess helps). She has won her last two now and only very slightly rises in weight. She can fight out the finish again form a good barrier.
Cinquedea is a horse with enormous upside and he comes into this race in excellent form. He put a couple of lengths on his rivals within a few strides entering the straight last start before he was only run over late by the smart Phaistos. he has drawn well again here and he is better suited at the mile in my opinion.
