Things are starting to heat up in Melbourne with plenty of black type races to get around at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.
The Listed McKenzie Stakes for the three-year old colts and geldings is the feature event of the day and looks an enticing contest.
Our full preview and tips of the nine race program can be found below.
Connery managed back to back wins in May and has been racing consistently without winning since those wins. He went into his last race at Caulfield as favourite however the winner was off and gone before he could get going on the heavy track. He has a tricky gate to overcome in this race however he is well over the odds in my opinion and worth a little each way play.
With a host of scratchings out of the race, I’m happy to be with Perfect Rhyme who maps to get a nice run somewhere near the lead from barrier five.
Taraayef from the Hayes stable looks a very smart little filly. She was a winner at this track just three weeks ago and she looks the one to beat yet again in this contest. She maps to be a little closer than she was last start from barrier ten however she clearly has a fair amount of ability and she can continue to climb through the grades with another win in this.
I’m going with the lightly raced Street Icon in a tricky race here. The four year old mare was narrowly denied first up in just her fourth career start behind Gododdin at Caulfield. She was horribly wide for the entire trip last start which told late. She maps to get a better run in transit in this race and I think the valley will suit her.
I have quite a high opinion of this Hawkes trained four year old. Here is only a lightly raced horse but he has untapped ability. His first up second behind The Inevitable down the straight at HQ was full of merit and I think the winner is quite a smart horse also. They put a gap on the rest of the field there and I think he is a better horse around a bend and the Valley should suit him down to a tee. Best of the day for mine.
It’s hard to ignore the recent form of Mosh Music who has strung together four wins on the trot and six of her last seven starts. Three of those wins have been at The Valley and I can’t see why she can not continue on her winning way in this race.
Condo’s Express looks one out of the box after the Rubick colt burst through when clear to score an impressive win at The Valley last start. The stable clearly thought the colt was going well after a second placing at Echuca previous to his debut win and he has drawn perfectly in barrier two here. He has a fitness edge on a few of these resuming and I can see him making it back to back wins in this.
Tavisan sped around the tight Moonee Valley bend last start and showed an impressive turn of foot to be a couple of lengths clear before peaking on the run and caught late. He meets a few of those much better at the weights for this race and he clearly looks the one to beat for mine.
Al Galayel was doing his best work late at The Valley last time out and I think he can feature in the finish here. He has an excellent record at The Valley and he drops 3 kilos from his last run.
I thought Bedford was very good in that same race last start and he too meets a few of these better at the weights. He should get a soft run from the inside barrier and should go close at nice odds.
