War Baron is easily the most experienced runner set to step out in the second at Canterbury today and he can break his maiden. The son of Declaration Of War has stepped out in black type company three times during his racing career so far and returned from a freshen up to finished fourth behind Funstar at Randwick just over a week ago. He’ll take improvement into this and does look a touch of overs at his current price ($10 at publish).
Search Squad is seeking a hat-trick of wins when he steps out in the sixth at Sandown today and looks a live chance in an open race. The Falkirk gelding just got there on the heavy going at Mornington two back, before producing another eye-catching performance in a tougher race at this track and distance last time out. He’s rock-hard fit, drawn a peach in barrier 5 and has the notable advantage of leading jockey Craig Williams in the saddle.
Attorney faces a rise in class at Canterbury this afternoon, but he was an impressive first-up winner and will take plenty of improvement into this race. The Matt Smith-trained import recorded several pleasing efforts during his time in France and debuted in Australia with a perfectly timed run to score over a mile at Newcastle last month. He can settle off the early pace from the wide barrier before calling on his turn of foot and the rise in trip will suit.
Aristocratic Miss has returned several pleasing efforts this time and will appreciate a drop in class at Sandown this afternoon. The Tony McEvoy-trained filly finished fourth at Listed level five starts back, before winning here in May. He three subsequent starts have all come in Saturday metro company and all performances would have been good enough to win this.
