Mahalo won an open class race at Wagga on the heavy surface last start by 2 lengths and she looks well placed again in this contest. She was a bit wayward in the straight that day however she was well clear of her rivals. The apprentice will claim 3kg which is a big bonus.
A couple of key early scratchings have really opened this race up and Romelo looks a nice each-way chance of winning ($6.50 at publish). The Ekraar gelding has continued to improve with racing this time and hit the line well to finish fifth at the ‘Bool last time out. He typically races well on a heavy track and will relish a drop in the weights.
Devil’s Rain will carry good improvement into his second-up target at Albury this afternoon and looks well placed to return to winning form. The Reset entire was a strong and consistent performer for Mark Webb last time in and hit the line to finish three lengths off the winner at Sale a couple of weeks ago. He’s another horse that will enjoy a rain-affected track and with even luck from the wide draw, he can fight out the finish.
This three year old Pierro filly has only won one of her six career starts to date but she is a filly with a fair amount of ability. She has not been far away at her two runs this prep and she will appreciate the step up to 1400m. Jamie Kah combines with the Hayes stable and she has drawn the inside gate.
