Hawkesbury: Race 2 (1:20pm)
No. 8 Uprise

Uprise has only made one appearance at the races so far, but there was a lot to like about the way he toughed it out and he looks well placed to break his maiden at Hawkesbury this afternoon. The Hinchinbrook gelding was caught wide at Newcastle debut, but still hit the line well to finish fourth and there is no doubt that he’ll have taken good improvement for the experience.

Hawkesbury: Race 3 (1:55pm)
No. 2 Castel Sant'Angelo

Castel Sant’Angelo was only fair at Kembla Grange last time out, but he simply will not be offered a better opportunity to break his maiden than he finds this afternoon. The Waterhouse & Bott-trained gelding finished on the winner’s heels at his first two starts this time and laboured to the line to finish fourth most recently. The drop in trip should suit and he is ready to win.

best bet
Hawkesbury: Race 4 (2:30pm)
No. 3 Silver Melody

Silver Melody will take plenty of benefit into his second-up run at Hawkesbury today and looks capable of winning in this company. The Kris Lees-trained galloper returned several pleasing efforts last time in and hit the line well to finish fourth in a tougher race at Canterbury first-up. The drop in class is obviously ideal and he looks a touch of overs at his current price ($3.40 at publish).

Hawkesbury: Race 6 (3:50pm)
No. 3 Mandalong Tapit

Mandalong Tapit will carry winning form into the sixth at Hawkesbury today and looms as a live each-way chance ($7.50 at publish). The Tapit colt has been a model of consistency this time, but his impressive win at Newcastle last time suggested that he has found peak condition. He’s drawn well and typically races well on soft going.
