It’s the final major of the season and all eyes will be on the Dunluce course at Royal Portrush Golf Club from Thursday night Australian time when the world’s best golfers tee off at the 2019 British Open.
Dunluce has not hosted the British Open since 1951 and the course has experienced several changes in preparation for the tournament’s return this year. The Open Championship is typically the season’s most open major and several outsiders have enjoyed success at the tournament, including reigning champion Francesco Molinari.
Before the first ball is driven down the first fairway, we’ve analysed the field and our 2019 British Open tips, including best roughie can be found below.
2019 British Open Winner
Rory McIlroy ($7.50)
Rory McIlroy has returned several typically pleasing performances and results in 2019 and it would be fitting to see a local lift the Claret Jug upon its return to Northern Ireland.
Wins at The Players and Canadian Open have been complimented by nine top-ten finishes, including both the PGA Championship and last month’s US Open.
McIlroy has been knocking on the door of another major all year and there is no doubt that Royal Portrush will offer the thirty-year-old his best chance so far.
Brooks Koepka ($10)
Brooks Koepka has been the safest bet at majors for a couple of seasons now and it would not be at all surprising to see the talented American hoist the Claret Jug after four rounds on the Dunluce course.
Koepka has also won two tournaments in season 2019 including the PGA Championship in May; a result which lifted his career tally at major tournaments to four.
There’s almost no doubt that he will be thereabouts on the final day of play and if he is given even the faintest sniff at winning, Koepka will prove extremely difficult to hold out.
Jon Rahm ($17)
Jon Rahm has been a strong and consistent performer all year and claiming a maiden major win at the 2019 Open Championship would cap a truly memorable season for the Spaniard.
Rahm has won the Hero World Challenge and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans most notably this season; finishing in a tie for ninth at The Masters and third at the US Open his best results at majors.
Following a couple of lacklustre efforts in May, Rahm’s performance at the US Open is sure to have reinstalled plenty of confidence and he is up to winning the British Open.
Best Aussie Chance – Adam Scott ($26)
Adam Scott is yet to win a tournament in 2019, but he has returned several excellent performances recently and clearly has the class to be crowned the 2019 Open Championship winner.
Scott’s performances at Majors in particularly have been world class and he followed up a credible T18 at The Masters with strong efforts for T8 at the PGA Championship and T7 at the US Open.
The $26 on offer for Scott in outright betting does look a touch of overs, while he is more than worth consideration to finish in the top ten.
Best Roughie – Bryson DeChambeau ($51)
Bryson DeChambeau weathered a horror run in late April and May, but he has returned to competitive form recently and is worth consideration at $51 in 2019 British Open betting.
The exciting young American finished in a tie for eighth at the Travelers Championship in late June, before finishing an agonizingly close second at the 3M Open last week.
His confidence has clearly returned and with less pressure on his shoulders in Northern Ireland, perhaps we’ll witness the real Bryson DeChambeau at Royal Portrush.
