2019 Bletchingly Stakes Day Tips & Preview

The Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes run over the 1200m is the feature race of the meeting at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sesar from the Hawkes camp is the red hot favourite for the race and we have offered our tip on that race and ALL nine races below.

Steph Hunter VOBIS Gold Ingot (1400m)

Last chance for these horses to compete as two year olds and it is a tricky way to start the day. I’m sticking with the James Cummings trained juvenile Spirit Medium who won her maiden very comfortably at Bendigo last start. She has drawn well and will only be better with the extra distance.

Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m)

Mystified had a tough time of it creating a fast tempo at Caulfield in an open class race last however she battled home soundly to be beaten 2.5 lengths. She is racing well and I like the fact she gets back to 1100m for this contest. Looks over the odds to me and is worth a little each way play.

Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1600m)

I’m happy to be with Laure Me In in quite an big and open field of gallopers despite the poor gate and big weight. His two runs in this prep have been full of merit and he was doing his best work late last start at Caulfield behind Special Diva. He will appreciate getting to the mile and with even luck in running, will be flashing late.

Danny Barrett VOBIS Gold Stayers (1400m)

The four year old So You Think mare has been racing consistently without winning up north. Her last two races have resulted in runner up badges in Listed company and she will appreciate a little step down in class for this contest. There is not a fitter horse in the race and I think she gets in very well at the weights. Handicap (2400m)

*False favourite alert*

Happy to take Tavirun on in this.

All three horses I’m tipping come out of the same race. Not A Single Cent had to pick himself up at the 300m when a gap closed up and although he goes up in weight, he is the class runner.

Reflect The Stars and American In Paris went over the line together and I can’t split them. Both were tough toward the end of the race and meet the winner better at the weights.

Jenna Ross VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m)

Benitoite was never really in the race last time out at Flemington however it was hard to miss the work she put in late. She had every right to switch off as Walker asked little of her but she responded to savage the line late. She has got to her right price now but she is a winning chance.

Long Fine Plate (1200m)

Street Icon won her first two races impressively before failing at Group 2 level in her first prep. The Street Boss filly returned to the races with a very nice second behind a handy horse in Gododdin and I think she will only improve on that run in what looks quite a weak open three year old race if I was being honest.

best bet
Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m)

The Hakes team have acquired quite a handy three year old colt with Sesar and he didn’t disappoint in his first run for the stable with a very impressive last to first win at Royal Randwick. He clearly performs well fresh and it has been over a month between runs. This is not the best quality group 3 I’ve seen and I think he can get the job done at the short quote.

Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1400m)

Happy to finish the day with a horse that has won seven 13 starts at the 1400m in Tshahitsi. The seven year old battled on very well to only be beaten just over two lengths first up and he will be much better around the bend.
