The early scratching of Stealty Lucas has left Cape Richards as the horse to beat in the sixth at Swan Hill today. The Patrick Payne-trained sprinters hit the line well to finish third first-up this time and while he was a little disappointing in metro company at Sandown last time out, he’ll take plenty of improvement into this race and will enjoy a step back to country racing.
Husson Eagle has returned two competitive efforts this time and looks a live each-way chance of winning this afternoon’s Swan Hill Cup. The Husson gelding has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career and has continued to produce high-quality performances in strong company. He’ll take improvement into this and getting out to a mile should suit at this point of his prep ($14 at publish).
Kaplumpich hasn’t been seen at the races since January, but he is a horse that typically races in tougher company than he finds at Swan Hill this afternoon and he can make a winning return. The All American gelding enjoyed a strong campaign last time in and scored a strong win in a decent race at The Valley most notably, as well as returning several other pleasing results in tougher city races.
