2019 Tatt’s Tiara Day Tips & Preview

The final day of the Brisbane Racing Carnival comes to us in the form of Tatt’s Tiara Day at Eagle Farm.

Before the Queensland Carnival heads north, the final group 1 of the 2018/19 racing season will be run on Saturday with some of the best fillies and mares in the country tackling the 1400m at Eagle Farm.

This is always a fantastic race day and our full preview of the card with our recommended betting plays can be found below.

Benchmark 75 (1000m)
LIFESAVER

Was very keen on November Man however with the scratching, I am happy to stick with the Sydney form and tip Lifesaver. His first up run was full of merit and he can make the step up in class for a race of this quality.

Winning Edge Presentations Stakes (1400m)
KORDIA

Tough to please the top two babies in the market in this contest. When in doubt in these two year old races, it has proven profitable sticking with the Godolphin Blue if you must have a bet otherwise I’d suggest sicking this one out.

Battle Of The Bush Final (1200m)
MARKSFIELD

I’m not sure there is another Gunsynd among the 16 runners in the Battle Of The Bush final however I’m keen on Marksfield at a nice price. His last trip to town came in February where he was narrowly beaten by Mr Markou over this distance. He will appreciate the drop in weight and to say he should be fit for this is an under statement!

best bet
3 Year Old Plate (1400m)
VEGA ONE

Vega One is a very talented young horse from the Tony Gollan stable and I’m confident in saying he is the best three year old in this race currently. He will appreciate the step back in grade here and record another win.

Class 6 Plate (1400m)
SMARTEDGE

Smartedge comes into this Class 6 event with superior formlines than any other horse in the horse in my opinion. The four year old was beaten only two lengths by a smart one in Seaway at Rosehill back in February in a benchmark 88 and he can return to the winners stall in this race.

Group 3 Tattersall's Cup (3000m)
BIG DUKE

There are plenty of horses in this race that are unproven at the distance and despite the big weight Big Duke is a proven performer at Group 1 level over two mile. he weaved his way through the field in the Brisbane Cup and was doing his best work late. This looks a perfect race for him and Blake Shinn is riding very well of late.

G.H Mumm Open (1820m)
MASK OF TIME & COOL CHAP

I’m happy to take on a couple here at the top of the market that have not seen out the 1800m before.

Mask Of Time ran into a bog track when he ran 10th in the Hollindale at the Gold Coast and will appreciate the step back in grade. Each way odds.

Cool Chap is another that has form at the distance and with even luck can run a race at a big price in a race of this quality.

Group 1 Tatt's Tiara (1400m)
SAVATIANO

Savatiano is a mare with a lot of upside and she has gone to another level in the past six months or so. Her win in the Moreton Stakes couldn’t have been any more impressive and she goes into this race in very good form.

Group 3 W.J Healy Stakes (1200m)
VICTOREM & QUILISTA

I’ve picked out two horses who in my opinion produced two of the best performances of the carnival to date.

Victorem was well supported last start at this track and distance and he showed an incredible turn out foot to blitz his rivals in the final 200m. He maps to get a good run in transit from barrier 2 and you can look for him late again.

Quilista led her rivals a merry dance when she scored at Listed level two back before she ran into a smart one in Savatiano (Who I have on top in the Tatt’s Tiara) last start. If she can jump to the front and get an easy time of it, she will again be tough to run down.
