The Twins enter this matchup in excellent form, winning 5 of their last 6 to sit 24-12. Left Fielder Eddie Rosario has been absolutely killing it offensively, going for 13 homers and 31 RBI so far. Probable pitcher Michael Pineda has had his fair share of struggles this season, allowing an ERA over 6 through his 34 innings.
Things haven’t been as good for the Tigers, who find themselves just 16-19 after yesterday’s loss. The offence again proved problematic as they failed to score a single run in a comfortable loss. Probable pitcher Spencer Turnbull has allowed an ERA of just 2.31 this season, giving them some outside hope.
Prediction: Twins $1.60
If it wasn’t for the pitching edge for the Tigers, these odds would be in $1.35 territory. Minnesota is a much better side playing in excellent form right now. I expect their strong offence to prove far too much here as they manage another comfortable home win.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals managed a very impressive surprise win over the Phillies yesterday, improving their record to 14-25 in the process. Alex Gordon had yet another stellar offensive game, going for 2 hits and 3 RBI. Scott Barlow was excellent in relief, striking out all 6 batters that he faced.
Despite a relatively strong start to the campaign, the Phillies just can’t afford to keep dropping games like they did yesterday. Bryce Harper was clearly identified as the main offensive threat, receiving 3 free walks. The return of Zach Eflin should spell good things for Philly, with the veteran allowing an ERA of just 3 through 42 innings.
Prediction: Phillies $1.70
While I lost tipping the Phillies yesterday, I still believe they’re comfortably the better side in this matchup. Zach Eflin is definitely a quality pitcher at this level and can definitely restrict the Royals lineup. Throw in solid offensive days from Hoskins and Harper and I see a resurgent road win here.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers got back to winning ways yesterday with a very solid home win, moving to 26-15 in the process. Cody Bellinger continues to ball out this season, totalling 14 homers and 38 RBI already. Walker Buehler is back on the mound for this one, having allowed an ERA of 4.95 so far.
Things haven’t looked as rosy for the Nationals, who sit just 15-23 after their loss yesterday. The offence was again largely responsible, failing to register a single run in a poor hitting display. Max Scherzer is back on the mound for this one, although his numbers definitely haven’t been as inspiring this season.
Prediction: Dodgers $1.80
With Max Scherzer pitching for the Nats, I’m going to continue fading him. The Dodgers are still comfortably the better side here and I think they should be much stronger favourites. Especially if we get another Bellinger explosion, $1.80 is a very tasty price.
