Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays enter this clash at a disappointing 16-23 after splitting their series with the White Sox so far. They’ll need more production from their lacklustre offence, with not a single player reaching 20 RBI this season. The reliable Aaron Sanchez is expected back on the mound for this one, having allowed an ERA of 3.21 through 42 innings.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox haven’t been in the best form themselves, entering this contest at 17-21. They did however manage an impressive road win yesterday, led by 2 RBI each from Charlie Tilson and Yolmar Sanchez. Lucas Giolito is the probable pitcher here, having gone 3-1 with an ERA of 4.06 so far.
Prediction: Blue Jays $1.85
While these two sides are relatively even, I believe home field and a slight pitching edge gives the Blue Jays the advantage here. I think their offence can get going in this one and expect them to take the series lead at $1.85.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants returned home after a long road trip only to be trounced by the Reds 7-0 in the series opener. Things just haven’t been stellar offensively for the Giants this season, with only Kevin Pillar eclipsing 5 homers. Ace Madison Bumgarner is back to steady the ship here, although he’s only 2-4 this season with a 3.99 ERA.
The Reds admittedly haven’t started the season much better, winning just 17 of their first 39 games. Eugenio Suarez and Derek Dietrich are the two men carrying the offence, combining for 21 homers and 49 RBI. Tyler Mahle is likely to pitch here, having gone 0-5 with an ERA of 3.7 so far.
Prediction: Giants $1.88
Despite some horrendous recent form, I think the Giants are ready for revenge here. While he hasn’t lived up to expectations, Bumgarner is still a strong pitcher that gives them a matchup advantage. If the Giants offence can get going, $1.88 looks like a very tasty price.
The Cubs are looking like one of the best teams in baseball, currently sitting at 23-14. The offence has been stellar and consistent this season, with 3 players reaching 10 homers and 4 reaching 20 RBI. Ace Jon Lester is back on the mound here, allowing an ERA of just 1.41 in his 32 innings.
The Brewers are certainly no easy-beats, currently sitting at 24-17. The steroid tests still haven’t come for Christian Yelich, who is putting up incredible numbers of 16 homers and 37 RBI. Pitcher Jhoulys Chacin hasn’t been great this season, going 3-3 and allowing an ERA over 5.
Prediction: Cubs $1.67
These two sides are relatively similar, but I’m very confident in Jon Lester and the Cubs home field in this one. I also expect their offence to have their way with Chacin, making them very strong value even at $1.67.
