Li’l Kontra is easily the most experienced runner stepping out in the first at Morphettville today and looks well placed to make it two in a row. The two-year-old daughter of Krupt is yet to finish outside of the places through seven career starts and mustered a career-best effort to date to score over 1050m at Listed level with ease last time out. She’s rock-hard fit and has the advantage of William Pike in the saddle.
Kapajack hasn’t been seen at the races since December, but he showed excellent ability during his debut prep and can make a winning return on the Kensington course this afternoon. The Lonhro gelding strolled home to break his maiden on debut and continued to perform well as Team Hawkes raised the bar; ending his prep third in BM78 company at Randwick. He’s had the benefit of a couple of nice trials and looks ready to go.
Spanish Reef has returned several typically pleasing efforts this time and looks the one to beat in the Queen Of The South Stakes at Morphettville this afternoon. The multiple black type winner took a couple to tune up when resuming in February but was an impressive third-up winner over at mile at Group 3 level and has since finished a close second in the Group 2 Sunline and fifth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf. She’s rock-hard fit and this is a drop in class.
I’ll Have A Bit keeps her best form for Morphettville and looks a live each-way chance in a wide-open edition of the Sangster. The Smart Missile mare’s form is actually incredible – she broke her maiden in the Group 3 National Stakes here two years ago and returned in 2018 to win the Group 2 Euclase as a $101 pop, before finishing third in The Goodwood. I’m going out on a limb a little, but she has the runs on the board here and the $21 on offer at publish looks overs.
