2019 FA Cup Final Preview

The Premier League has wrapped for another season, but there is still plenty of football to be played in England and sights will be set on Wembley early on Sunday morning for the 2019 FA Cup Final.

Once upon a time, it was the FA Cup or bust in Australia. Waking up at sparrows on a Sunday to watch the game’s elite trade blows before the Premier League, before ludicrous wagers and before only a handful of teams could possibly win the league.

Betting suggests it’ll be one-way traffic, but the 2019 FA Cup Final looms as an intriguing contest.

Manchester City, who became the first club in a decade to defend their Premier League title last weekend are red-hot favourites, but they will need to be at their best to beat a Watford side that enjoyed a quality Premier League campaign of their own.

Massive disparities in budget have rarely counted in the FA Cup Final and perhaps Sunday’s match won’t be as clear cut as it seems, either. At publish, City are the $1.20 favourites to beat Watford ($12).

City’s Path

Their incredible couple of Premier League campaigns aside, City boast incredible depth that is second to none, certainly in England and that has undoubtedly played a major role in them finding their way into the FA Cup Final.

A 7-0 thrashing of League 1’s Rotherham in the third round was franked with a 5-0 pantsing of fellow PL club Burnley, before they comfortably beat Newport County 4-1 in the fifth round. The finals are where things started getting interesting for City – they snuck past championship side Swansea 3-2, before another tight 1-0 win over Brighton saw them book a Wembley ticket.

Watford’s Path

Alongside Wolves, Watford were probably the ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League this season. They weren’t quite as potent at season’s end, but they were the thorn in the side of several big clubs throughout the campaign and took several major scalps.

The Hornets beat Woking in the third round of the FA Cup and booked a place in the fourth round at PL rivals Newcastle – a match that ended with a smart 2-0 win. A 1-0 win over QPR was followed by a 2-1 win over Palace, before they booked their place in the big dance by beating Wolves in a 3-2 thriller.

2019 FA Cup Betting

While Watford do have claims on hoisting the FA Cup, City will field a full-strength team and their overall form has just been too good to ignore. City have a historical record of 17-6-5 against Watford and they have won all meetings with the Hornets since drawing in the Premier League in 2007 – obviously including their home and away meetings this PL season.

They are far too short in win-draw-win betting but are available at even money ($2) to win this match to nil.

Sergio Aguero has been banging them in for fun this season and is the $3.75 favourite to open the scoring in the FA Cup final, from Gabriel Jesus ($4.30), Raheem Sterling ($4.75) and Leroy Sane ($5.75). In total, ten City players are more-favoured in the market to score first than Watford’s top-elect; Adalberto Penaranda ($13).
