#STANDBYHIRD Really?

You have to admire the delusion of the media and some fans when it comes to Essendon.

The Bombers haven’t won a final for 15 years, have started the season 0-2 after being fancied to be a contender this season and what are people talking about?

James Hird making a coaching comeback…to Essendon.

Despite the fact they’ve signed current coach John Worsfold until 2020 or the fact that Hird was involved with a controversial doping program with the likes of Steve Dank and Dean “The Weapon” Robertson that cost Essendon a spot in the 2013 finals, saw him banned from coaching in 2014, resulted in 34 Bombers players being eventually suspended from WADA, but, hey, it’s Hirdy and he’s the golden boy of Essendon.

Speaking on FOX Footy’s AFL Tonight show former Bomber Brendon Goddard said he’d have no problem with Hird coaching again.

I think so. It’s pretty premature to think that far ahead because I assume that if he ever was to go back to Essendon, it’d be in some (other) capacity (first), obviously not walk straight in back as head coach.” Said Goddard.

“For me personally, I’ve got no qualms with it whatsoever. I said at the time he left Essendon and from what I’ve seen in my relationship with him — which was great and admittedly we haven’t spoken in a while — but he had the potential to be a great coach. And I don’t use that term lightly.” Mate, get back on the pretzels…or peptides (Goddard arrived at Essendon after the doping program)

Meanwhile, Jobe’s dad, Tim Watson put things in perspective last night on Channel 7’s Talking Footy.

JOBS FOR THE (old) BOYS

Phil “Gus” Gould has admitted that he held talks with Wayne Bennett to coach Penrith in 2019.

Speaking to the NRL website, the Panthers “boss” (Well assistant to Gus anyway) CEO Dave O’Neill told that Gould had recommended that Bennett take the reins at the Panthers.

Gould addressed the rumours last night on Channel 9’s 100% Footy program.

“I met with Wayne and I recommended that to the Panthers but the Ivan thing had come up in the background.

“I had to ring Wayne and say we were a no go, it didn’t take too long, he was good and we moved on with the Ivan thing.”

The Panthers eventually settled for bringing back Ivan Cleary, even though Gus can’t pull the puppet strings.
