Winter Sonata hasn’t been seen at the races since December, but she is capable of a strong performance fresh and strikes a winnable one at Grafton this afternoon. The Kris Lees-trained mare returned several pleasing efforts last time in and she’s had the benefit of a couple of nice trials leading into this race. She could receive the run of the race from gate 4.
Karakoram mustered an eye-catching turn of foot to finish midfield at Geelong last time out and is rock-hard fit for his fourth-up assignment this afternoon. The High Chaparral gelding has typically improved further into his preparations and he can settle closer today from barrier 4. With even luck, he’s up to winning a race of this quality ($7.50 at publish).
Flogga has been charged with carry topweight at Sale this afternoon, but he’ll take improvement into this race and at his best, he has an edge over this field. The son of High Chaparral has steadily improved through his three campaign starts so far and hit the line well for fifth at Pakenham last time out. This is a nice step back in class and he’s ready to win.
Perfect Command is another horse that will appreciate a drop back to country company at Sale this afternoon and he’ll be hard to beat. The Commands gelding ran on well to finish a close second at Geelong two starts back, before weathering a tough run for fifth at Pakenham last time out. He’s drawn beautifully and at peat fitness.
