Around The Tweets: AFL Round 4

Round 4 of the AFL has come and gone and people’s frustration about TV broadcasts, umpiring, misery, delight and their footy tipping was there for all to see.

Brace yourselves for an Epic edition of Around the Tweets from Round 4 of the AFL.

SUNDAY ARVO:
St.Kilda 10-14 (74) def. Hawthorn 10-9 (69)

It was a thrilling five-point win to the Saints but Twitter was filthy about both FOX Footy and Seven’s decision to cut straight into the next program once the final siren sounded.

Dreadful programming aside, Eric Bana known to most as Poida from Full Frontal is up and about with the Saints unexpected great start to 2019.

It also appears Chad Wingard has filled the void for commentators in the post-Cyril world.

The stats don’t lie about the impact of Jack Billings for the Saints

This photo from legendary AFL photographer Michael Wilson was yet another masterpiece.

And while Seven and FOX cut to the next program as soon as the siren went, at least Channel 7 put the Saints singing the song on Twitter.

SUNDAY ARVO:

Gold Coast Suns 8-11 (59) def. Carlton 8-9 (57)

Carlton looked like they were about to break through for their first win of the season after a goal from Patrick Cripps, putting the Blues ahead by five points.

But Jack Bowes had other ideas.

Carlton Twitter took the loss well.

And while Carlton fans vented their misery, others delighted in it.

Remember when Carlton traded tfirst-roundround pick to Adelaide at the next draft?
Twitter now has a dedicated account.

And on the actual football, mighty Mick McGuane (Carlton legend) spoke logical sense.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
West Coast 10-9 (69) def. Fremantle 7-14 (56)

A very nice final score from West Coast as they gave Freo the old heave ho with a 13 point win in the Western Derby.

Most of the Tweeting surrounded the issue of too boo nor not too boo Andrew Gaff. That is the question.

But it was this Tweet about Andrew Gaff from Mrs. Matthew Pavlich that caused a storm.

It’s even big news in Perth.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
North Melbourne 9-17 (71) def. Adelaide 8-11 (59)

North tried to lose on Saturday night but still managed to win in what was a rather forgettable game at Marvel Stadium.

This man summed up the match perfectly in one single Tweet.

There were some questionable free kicks, particularly awarded to North’s Ben Brown and Brendon Goddard didn’t hold back during his ABC commentary duties.

Twitter was bang on the money about Ben Brown as well.

Ben Brown aside, it’s looking pretty grim again for Adelaide after many had fancied the Crows to be right amongst it this year.

SATURDAY TWILIGHT:
Port Adelaide 14-8 (92) def. by Richmond 15-9 (99)

With the big four missing, not many expected Richmond to beat Port at Adelaide Oval but for the Tiger Twitter Army, it was one of the great days.

Cheryl will never go to Adelaide Oval again.

Dylan Grimes performance was that good, they want a statue of him at Punt Road.

A mighty fine debut from  Jack Ross for the Tigers and the Tiger Army want him signed up for many, many years to come.

And the media were happy to jump back on the Tiger bandwagon after trying to write them off during the week.

SATURDAY ARVO:
Essendon 17-10 (112) def. Brisbane Lions (proudly sponsored by Neds) 9-11 (65)

Just a flesh wound for the mighty Lions. They’ll be back big time against the Pies at the Gabba on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Bomber fans are starting to find their voice again and loving all things Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti

Bomber fans, we know we’ve been harsh over the past few weeks so enjoy this from Triple M’s call.

SATURDAY ARVO:
Geelong 11-9 (75) def. by GWS Giants 11-13 (79)

In one of the best wins in the short history of the GWS Giants, the undermanned Giants beat the Cats on their home deck in a thrilling come from behind win.

While the win was one the Giants will treasure, Cats fans on Twitter seemed not to like Dermott Brereton’s commentary.

Given Hawthorn hasn’t played at Geelong since 2006, it’s been quite a drought for this individual then.

Meanwhile, on the Giants side of things, big Cal Ward went down with a knee injury. This photo summed things up what he means to the club.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Collingwood 11-12 (78) def. Western Bulldogs 9-10 (64)

In a game to forget, Collingwood grinded out a 14 point win over the Doggies at the G on Friday night.

Many people took to Twitter to point out that it was a crap game of footy and was an easy chance to call out the AFLW haters as a result.

Turns out it’s the coaches fault the game is crap.

Perhaps we should change the rules again?

Elite mullet. Elite schools.

THURSDAY NIGHT:
Sydney 11-12 (78) def by. Melbourne 15-10 (100)

The Dees got their first win of the season over the Swans, where it’s safe to say the glory days are over.

Dees fan Julian Assange was up and about on Thursday, even when been taken from the Ecuadorian Embassy

Democracy was in action.

Swans can’t win at the SCG. Perhaps they go back to ANZ Stadium or the Lake Oval?

Priceless.
