AUSTRALIA UNITED IN THINKING THE NRL WILDCARD ROUND IDEA IS CRAP

In the first time for a long time, Rugby League fans are all united in thinking the NRL’s proposal to add a ‘wildcard round’ for the teams that finish seventh to 10th on the ladder from season 2020 is a bloody awful proposition.

The proposal would also give teams who finish in the top six the week off allowing the remaining four teams to play off in the ‘wildcard’ finals.

Clearly, some NRL exec has been to the US and seen this done in the NFL where there are 32 teams and 12 make the finals, not Rugby League which has 16 teams with eight playing finals football. While it’s nice for the NRL execs to justify their USA sports junket, they really don’t need to bring back such woeful concepts.

However, we are all for the prospect for the Wildcard weekend should clubs such as the Gold Coast Titans and Wests Tigers finish 9th and 10th and progress as a result of the Wildcard concept.

SHOCK! NBL PLAYER WOULD RATHER PLAY IN THE NBA.

High-prized Sydney Kings recruit Andrew Bogut is set to rejoin the Golden State Warriors in the NBA.

Bogut spent four years at the Warriors including being part of a winning title in 2015, and NBA clubs have been keen to have him back.

US Media is reporting that Bogut returning to Golden State is all but a sure thing and they are just waiting on clearance from the Sydney Kings.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr couldn’t be bothered keeping it a secret and told the media overnight “I’ll just cut right to the chase and tell you that we have been talking with Bogut and his representatives,”

“Nothing is official and there are things that have to happen and we can’t really comment on it until it’s official.”

Bogut had signed a two-year contract with the Sydney Kings and won the NBL MVP which sparked the interests of NBA clubs.

Andrew Bogut joining the likes of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Igoudala on the same team is one to get Golden State Warriors fans up and about.

PIES HAVE HIGH BEAMS ON

The return of  Dayne Beams to Collingwood is one that is sure to get the Magpie army up and about.

In last night’s JLT Game against Freo, Beams proved that he is going to be a serious asset to the Magpies in season 2019.

Beams collected 25 disposals, six marks, four rebound 50s and kicked a goal with just under three-quarters of game time.

Jamie Elliott also showed his class and poise with 2 goals and plenty of the football.

Collingwood defeated the Dockers by 27 points in the hot conditions at Joondalup.

The JLT Series resumes on Thursday night with Geelong hosting Essendon at GMHBA Stadium.

It will be the first time Essendon has played on the ground since Round 21, 1993.
