- Freo thumped North Melbourne by 82 points. Who is this team and what have they done to the Fremantle Dockers? Freo played this fast flowing, attacking style of Football and even reached a total of 141 points, something that hasn’t been seen from them since 2013 and highly prized recruit Jesse Hogan didn’t even play!
- Essendon clearly has a trade period premiership hangover. Despite getting Dylan Sheil and their fans and various media pundits making them a flag fancy, the Bombers went down by 72 points and scored a total of 5-10 (40) to a club that didn’t even exist the last time they won a final.
- St. Kilda coach Alan Richardson can hold off sending out his CV for another week. The Saints beat the Gold Coast Suns by 1 point at Marvel Stadium in game that was actually quite fun to watch. The Saints meet Essendon this week and might be a chance if the same Essendon team turns up to play this week.
- How about the mighty Brisbane Lions (proudly sponsored by Neds)! The Gabbattoir is back after the Lions stormed home to a 44 point win over reigning premiers the West Coast Eagle on Saturday night. Charlie Cameron and Lincoln McCarthy dominated up forward, Hodgey was a reliable hand down back and Cam Rayner is already a deadest superstar. The Lions find themselves in the top eight after a round for the first time since 2012 and we reckon, much like 80’s pop band Yazz and the plastic population – the only way is up!

- The thor inspired Western Bulldogs managed to hold off a fast finishing Sydney Swans beating them by 17 points at Marvel Stadium. We could talk about what happened at the game itself, but the story to come out of it was Chris Hemsworth taking his mate, Matt Damon to a corporate box for the game.

- The Hawks dominated the Crows with a 32 point win at Adelaide Oval. The game was one to forget for Adelaide and the news that Tom Doedee suffered an ACL injury didn’t help. Ideally, the Crows should spend a few days together in some sort of camp situation run by people that aren’t psychologists. It’ll work a treat.
- The Melbourne we all know and love was back in full flight at the MCG on Saturday as the Dees went down to Port Adelaide by 26 points. Five goals from Justin Westhoff and Tom Rockliff got 44 touches. Along with that, Port’s first gamers such as Zak Butters did more than impress. The Power ganged up on Max Gawn and he had a shocking day. What really stood out was Jack Watts’s post-game interview after an eventful off-seaso
“That’s one of the best post-match interviews I’ve ever heard.” – Eddie McGuire

- In a scrappy but fast finishing affair, the Cats managed to fend off Collingwood by 7 points at the MCG on Friday night. If you just watched the last quarter, it was a great game of footy. If you watched the whole thing, it was a scrap.
- The season opened with Richmond getting the job done over Carlton by 33 points, Alex Rance got injured but that feels like a lifetime ago.
- Led by a vintage Robbie Farrah performance, the mighty Wests Tigers have got their season off to a great start with back to back wins with a 34-6 victory over the Warriors last night.
- Not many people have expected Parramatta to start the season with back-to-back wins, but here we are! The Eels dominated all afternoon to beat the Bulldogs 36-16 at ANZ Stadium.

- A sensational performance from Luke Keary led the undermanned Sydney Roosters to their first win of the season against Manly at Brookvale on Saturday night. Without Cooper Cronk or co-captain Jake Friend in the team, the reigning premiers were flawless in the opening half setting up a 22-0 lead in an overall one-sided match. Manly tried to get back into the game in the second half, but it was too little, too late.

- It was a thriller in the Hunter between the Knights and Panthers. Two tackles from James Maloney got the Panthers over the line in a 16-14 victory to Penrith.
- Not the best day out for the Neds Gold Coast Titans, but it was a good day for the Sharks. They thumped the Titans 20 – 6 in what was basically a clinic. Hopefully, our beloved Titans can get their season on track with a massive win over Souths next Sunday.
- The QLD Derby is normally a thriller that goes to golden point, but it wasn’t the case on Friday night. Led by Tevita Pangai jnr dominated as the Broncos stunned the Cowboys 29-10 on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium. Jason Taumalolo suffered a medial ligament injury and didn’t return for the second half.
- A hat trick in the first half from the Fijian flyer Suliasi Vunivalu led the Melbourne Storm to a 22-10 win over the Raiders on Friday night. Vunivalu had the hat trick done within the first 30 minutes of the game.
- Wayne Bennett’s South Sydney have started the season 2-0 with a 34-18 win over the Dragons.
