RETURN TO PREMIER

Cameron Smith has lashed out at the NRL’s double-standards calling on the League to reinstate the Melbourne Storm’s 2007 and 2009 premierships as a result of the penalties handed down to the Cronulla Sharks for salary cap breaches.

The Sharks were fined $750,000 after a nine-month investigation uncovered systematic rorting dating back to 2013.

The NRL allowed the Sharks were allowed to keep their one and only premiership from 2016 as the League declared it did not affect that season.

Back in 2010, Melbourne Storm was stripped of their 2007 and 2009 premierships, couldn’t play for competition points for the remainder of the season and copped a $1.7 million fine as a result of breaching the cap by that amount.

Speaking at the NRL season launch Smith went on to say “They look quite similar the way the salary cap breaches came about yet you see two significantly different punishments,”

“I think everyone can see what happened to us was fairly harsh. You haven’t seen anything like it since.”

Smith further went on to add “The key difference for me is that there is a fair bit of time put into gathering all the evidence, the emails, all that sort of stuff,”

“They haven’t made a decision after what was it, 48 hours like ours. They have put a bit of time and thought into the punishment handed down to Cronulla.”

He makes a valid point and it’s got nothing to do with the fact that this article is written by a Melbourne Storm supporter.

FABULOUS DAY AT FABULOUS FLEMINGTON

It’s SUPER SATURDAY and proper racing fans are in for an absolute treat tomorrow at Flemington with not only the running of the Newmarket Handicap but the Australian Cup.

That’s two group one race meets for the price of one!

Osborne Bulls goes in the favourite in our market at $4.

The James Cummings-trained, Hugh Bowman ridden horse has had nine wins and five placings from 14 starts and is primed to get the job done in this Group 1.

It’s a winning combination.

The Australian Cup is also going to be a sensational race.

The betting has Avilius as the firm favourite but with a field stacked with talents such as two Melbourne Cup winners and plenty of horses that have tasted success at the highest level he won’t have it all his way.

Allianz Stadium MORE LIKE NIMBY STADIUM

The people of Sydney’s war on sport, music and entertainment continues with the campaign to prevent that dated s*ithole of a Football ground Allianz Stadium from being demolished.

It’s turning into a hot issue ahead of the upcoming New South Wales state election with the Labor opposition using it as leverage for their campaign to defeat Gladys Berejiklian’s Liberal government.

A court has ruled this morning that demolition can proceed even though most of the awful bucket seats have been ripped out of the grandstands, corporate boxes have been dismantled and either way, they won’t be playing any footy at the ground anytime soon.

The plan to demolish the current Allianz Stadium and replace it with a $730 million brand spanking new one isn’t washing down with many voters, such as Peter Fitzsimons.

Even though the old stadium featured crap seats, long bar and toilet lines, hard to get to with Sydney peak-time traffic, plenty of views starring directly into the sun and the fact no one went to it, the Sydney sporting public could do with a new Stadium – just not in their backyard.
