Lucky Mission has not been seen at the races since November, but he is yet to miss a place through his short racing career so far and looks tough to beat in the first at Newcastle today. A son of quality sprinter Shamexpress, Lucky Mission finished right on the winner’s heels at his first two starts in spring before breaking his maiden with ease at this track and distance. He’s had the benefit of several trials leading into this race and can make a winning return.
Cuban Sizzle will take plenty of benefit into her second-up assignment at Newcastle today and is good enough to win at a great price ($14 at publish). The four-year-old daughter of Teofilo doesn’t win out of turn, but she was a strong and consistent performer last time in and just missed when she resumed at Scone two weeks ago. This race is slightly harder, but she still looks well placed.
Furlana has improved with racing this time and looks ready to peak third-up at Newcastle today. The Pierro mare jumped slowly first-up at Gosford but worked home well to finish fourth in decent company, before she produced another good effort to finish second behind the talented Sister Sledge, who has since stepped out in black type company. There is no horse of that calibre in this field and Furlana can go one better.
Evalina will carry winning form into her run at Newcastle today and can win her place in the Provincial Championships Final by taking out this race. The I Am Invincible filly recorded several pleasing results in spring and while she clearly required the run first-up this time when she tailed off to finish thirteenth, there was a lot to like about her comfortable win on the Kensington course two weeks ago, and she’ll only improve into this.
