Fish On has been a strong and consistent performer this time and I am confident that he can get us off to a winning start this afternoon. The Captain Sonador gelding has finished outside of the first three only once in his five most-recent starts and was an impressive winner at the Gold Coast two starts back. He isn’t drawn against much today and looks well placed to record the third win of his career.
Five-year-old Phuket has found career-best form this time and looks over the odds to win the sixth at Muswellbrook this afternoon ($14 at publish). The son of Medaglia D’Oro has been up and racing for a while, but he’s been far too good for his rivals at his three most-recent appearances with even luck in luck running he’ll prove hard to hold out again. This is a step up in class, but he’ll enjoy a relief in the weights and is ready to.
Sondelon will carry winning form into this afternoon’s Muswellbrook Gold Cup and looks the one to beat. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained gelding has recorded three wins and two minors through his seven career starts so far and his last-start effort to win by two lengths at Rosehill was easily the best performance to date. He’s rock-hard fit and drawn ideally in barrier 3.
Axella failed to come up during a short spring preparation, but her form prior to that preparation was excellent and she looks well placed to make a winning return at Ipswich this afternoon. The Stratum filly immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when she won on debut in late 2017 and she recorded several pleasing results through the preceding winter, including a smart run for second behind Granny Red Shoes at Listed level. She’s had the benefit of a trial and has the added advantage of Ryan Maloney aboard today.
