Ruby Red Heart will enjoy a big drop in the weights at Ipswich this afternoon and at her best, has this field covered on class. The Show A Heart mare resumed with a smart run for second over 1000m on the Sunshine Coast and took up the running at Doomben second-up; ultimately boxing on well to finish third in decent company. Ronny Stewart can take up the running from barrier 3 today and she’ll give them something to chase.
Pelican will take plenty of benefit into his second-up run at The Valley tonight and will enjoy a step back in class. The Fastnet Rock filly flew home to win a 1000m dash on debut in November before being sent to the paddock, and there was plenty of merit to her first-up performance for sixth in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m). She’s drawn beautifully in barrier 3 and can record the second win of her career.
Makahu Boy has been flying of late and strikes another winner 955m dash at The Valley tonight. The evergreen sprinter resumed for an easy win at Werribee in December before running a close second behind the smart Miss Norway over 1000m here. His two most-recent runs, both at The Valley and both resulting in dominant wins have been outstanding and even with a heavier topweight, there isn’t a reason why he won’t be fighting out the finish again.
Private Lounge has plenty of upside and looks well placed to win at a nice price ($8 at publish) tonight. The Duporth mare recorded three wins and two minors through her first five career starts but clearly needed the run after more than a year away from the track when she finished seventh over 1000m here at The Valley first-up. There was a lot to like about how she performed at the track and distance of this race last time and with even luck, she’ll be hard to hold out.
