The fields for races like this one have been outstanding this year and we’re set for a ripping edition of the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Several quality horses will come together for the first time in the Ranvet Stakes and while I do think there is a case to be made for many fighting their way into the minors, I only think there’s two winning chances.
Take a gander at the two I’m talking about in our 2019 Ranvet Stakes tips below.
Avilius didn’t turn up to the Australian Cup and he clearly owes us for that, but regardless of anything I think that this looks a far-more winnable race for him. His form since arriving in Australia has been truly excellent and while a Group 1 still has evaded him, he’s recorded five black type wins (six wins in total) from nine starts for James Cummings. He’s rock-hard fit for this assignment and I like the booking of Kerrin McEvoy to ride.
Unforgotten is the third-best horse currently in Chris Waller’s care, but certainly the best horse that he has in the Ranvet Stakes field. The Group 1 winner worked home fairly to finish fifth in the Apollo Stakes first-up, before hitting the line well for third in the Chipping Norton most-recently. Hughie has jumped out of Avilius’ saddle and into this one, and there’s no doubt she’ll relish the step up to 2000m.
Ace High has returned to the track in competitive form this time and looks a nice little bit of overs at his current price in Ranvet Stakes betting ($19 at publish). The two-time Group 1 winner shook off the cobwebs with an OK run for sixth in the Carlyon Cup first-up, before mustering an eye-catching turn of foot to run on for third behind Avilius in the Peter Young. He only finished a length and a half off the winner in the Australian Cup two weeks ago and I think he’ll only improve here.
Kiwi raider Danzdanzdance brings a completely unique form line into this race and I don’t mind a bit of that in a field full of chances. The Mastercraftsman mare has made a trip to Australia previously, albeit unsuccessfully, but her form this time has been great and has included consecutive wins in the Group 1 Captain Cook WFA (1600m) and Group 1 Zabeel Classic (2000m), the latter on heavy going. She was last seen finishing a nose second to Melody Belle in the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago.
