2019 Golden Slipper Day Tips & Preview

If this isn’t the best day on the racing calendar then I don’t know what is! We have five Group 1s to sink our teeth into and I’ve managed to find a few at huge prices for punters! Whether they win or not is another matter.

Here are my 2019 Golden Slipper Day Tips and Preview.

each way
Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m)

I am a big fan of this progressive mare. Australian Bloodstock purchased her for some spare change and a button and she has already won over $340K for them. She was enormous first-up in the Group 3 Wenona Girl at Randwick and is a very good each way chance in this at a big price. Would be a good way to kick start the day!

Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m)

This is an ridiculous price for a colt that has proven himself more than capable at this level before. He was beaten a bees penis in the Listed Brian Crowley over this distance back in October before breaking through at his next start. His trial leading into his first-up run was very good and he could only get going very late in the Fireball. $101 is well overs and I’ll be having a little each way play.

Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m)

Midterm was competitive in a Geelong Cup and The Metropolitan and looks well placed in a race like this. He is a duel acceptor in the Mornington Cup proving that he is going well. His first up run was full of merit and he looks right in what looks a competitive and tricky race.

best bet
Group 1 Rosehill Guineas

If he runs the 2000m, he wins. It really is as simple as that. Hopefully they grow some kahunas and take on Winx in the Queen Elizabeth to finish his racing career.

Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m)

James McDonald can just stalk the great mare and let her take him into the race. He has a prolific turn of foot and can go passed those that have attempted to take on Winx by setting a quick tempo… and failing…

Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m)

Both The Taj Mahal’s runs in the Peter Young and the Australian Cup have been better than they look on paper. The Williams owned bull is a horse that needs a fair amount of winding up and if he can get the others off the bit rounding the turn, and make it a real staying test, he can run a cheeky race. Admittedly he needs a lot to go right but from barrier 3, he can set the tempo and make his own luck on the speed.

Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m)

It’s going to be tough to work out just which Godolphin horse to watch as they make up half the field! There are a number of chances in this race however Tenley has drawn well which can be a big difference in a 1200m race for the young ones. She’s unbeaten and has the nest hoop in Sydney on board. That will do me.

Group 1 Galaxy Stakes (1100m)

Graff’s two runs in this prep have been very good and let’s face it, although this is a Group 1, it is a step back in class from the Newmarket. 1100m seems ideal for him and he can break through for a Group 1 win in an open edition of the race.

Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m)

We have the ‘Get Out Of Jail Stakes’ to finish off the day and I’ve tipped plenty of roughies on the card so why stop now. Girl Tuesday has been ticking away nicely this prep and she finally gets out to a distance that will suit somewhat. Mum (Tuesday Joy) did her best work when she got up over a distance and Girl Tuesday is a winner over the 1800m. worth an each way place to finish the day.
