It has been an excellent race for punters in recent years, I’ve personally backed six of the past eight winners, and I’m confident that I can find another winner with my 2019 Blue Diamond Stakes tips.
The bookies generally get this race right, but I think that they have gotten it completely wrong this year.
The fact that Loving Gaby has opened as a clear favourite on the back of one win in the Ladbrokes Chairman’s Stakes is nothing short of ridiculous and that means I’ve found plenty of value with my Blue Diamond Stakes selections.
It is no surprise that this filly has already been truckloaded and I expect the money to continue to flow. She may have been big odds in the Blue Diamond Prelude, but she was still excellent in that contest and that does look like the strongest form line. The $9 that she opened at in Blue Diamond Stakes betting was nothing short of ridiculous and the $6.50 is still worth a bet.
The bookies were clearly watching replays of Loving Gaby’s win in the Chairman’s Stakes when the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude was on. Vinicunca could hardly have been tougher in that contest and you can still get double-figure odds for the I Am Invincible filly. She will either lead or sit second behind I Am Immortal early and she will be stronger than him late.
The Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat might be one of the lowest races on the Australian racing calendar, but last year’s winner Hawker Hurricane is actually a serious horse. He was the best closer in the Blue Diamond Prelude for the colts and geldings and he looks as though he will relish the step-up to 1200 metres.
The wide barrier draw isn’t ideal and she will need a peach from Craig Williams, which is never good, but there is no doubt that she has talent. She flogged Accession on debut, who is a proper horse in his own right, and she was close without having a great deal of luck behind Lyre and Vinicunca in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude.
