Former Godolphin galloper Grunderzeit will take improvement into his second-up run at Wagga this afternoon and has a class edge over his rivals. The son of Street Cry was a strong and consistent performer in far tougher races than this when donning the blue silks, and he resumed this time for a close-up fourth over this trip at Gundagai three weeks ago. Even with a big topweight, he’s the horse to beat.
Luga Lad is a fifteen-start maiden, but he has just missed at his two most-recent starts and simply will not be offered a better opportunity to break his maiden. The Purrealist gelding hit the line fairly to finish third at the Sapphire Coast three runs back, before two decent performances to finish second at Canberra at each of his two most-recent efforts.
Another former Godolphin galloper, Olifants will carry winning form into the fourth at Wagga this afternoon and looks beautifully placed to continue that run of form. The Animal Kingdom gelding has recorded three wins from five starts since transferring away from James Cummings’ care, and took up the running over 1000m at Canberra last time out; comfortably beating a better field than the one.
Rock On Zariz is rock-hard fit and will enjoy a return to a mile at Wagga this afternoon. The six-year-old was a dominant winner at Bombala in late October and has worked home credibly to finish midfield at her three most-recent starts. Patrick Scorse can take the horse forward again today and with even luck in transit, can fight out the finish.
