This field is outstanding, but I am confident that Victorian raider Kiwia has his rivals covered and can return to the winner’s stall at Doomben this afternoon. The Reset gelding took a few runs to find his best form this time but was a dominant winner of the Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m) two starts back before suffering heat stress in the Pakenham Cup last time out. He can find a nice position in transit from barrier 4 today and with the Darren Weir polish, can finish over the top of his rivals.
Yulong September has only made one appearance at the races so far, but he ran on well to win and can go on with the job at Morphettville this afternoon. The Camelot gelding did race greenly on debut but showed plenty of ability and enjoyed an ideal start to his career. Dean Yendall can slot in behind the leaders from barrier 7 and with natural improvement, can win again.
Deprive has returned to the races in terrific form this time and finds himself in another very winnable one at Randwick this afternoon. The son of Denman clearly required the run when he battled home to finish third at Warwick Farm first-up, but he took plenty of benefit into his second-up target over 1100m here at Randwick a fortnight ago and was too good for his rivals. With more improvement into this race, he looks the one to beat.
Jorda was unlucky not to salute at huge odds last time out and can lay a great account for herself again in this afternoon’s Listed Nudgee Stakes. A change in tactics has seen the Exceed And Excel mare settled off the pace in her two most-recent starts and the decision has really starting paying off as she’s flown home when offered clear passage to finish fourth and second respectively over 1100m at Rosehill. The small rise in trip is ideal and with even luck from a central gate, she can fight out the finish again. ($13 at publish).
