English Premier League Week 14 Preview

English Premier League Week 14 Preview

The Premier League rolls on from Saturday morning and we’re set for an exciting slate of matches in Week 14.

City can keep their outstanding campaign moving by beating Bournemouth on Saturday night, while Newcastle will be confident of continuing their resurgence at West Ham’s expense.

We’ll be treated to two huge derbies late in the round when Tottenham travel to Arsenal and Liverpool host Everton.

Cardiff City vs Wolves
Wolves to Win ($2.10)

Cardiff City

Last 5 Matches: WLLWL
Ladder Position: 19th
Goal Difference: -15 (GF 11, GA 26)

Wolves

Last 5 Matches: LLLDL
Ladder Position: 11th
Goal Difference: -3 (GF 12, GA 15)

An intriguing fixture to open Week 14 of the Premier League and a case to be made for both clubs, in Wales. Cardiff’s form has been slightly better of late, but this still enter this fixture a solitary position above last and off the back of a loss. Wolves’ recent run of form has been worrying, but they simply will not be offered a better opportunity to return to the winner’s stall than this, and I am confident that they will.

Manchester City vs Bournemouth
City Win to Nil ($1.90)

City

Last 5 Matches: WWWWW
Ladder Position: 1st
Goal Difference: +35 (GF 40, GA 5)

Bournemouth

Last 5 Matches: DWLLL
Ladder Position: 8th
Goal Difference: +4 (GF 22, GA 18)

City are in incredible form again and enter Week 14 off the back of another 4-0 flogging of West Ham. They are clearly the league benchmark and will figure as an almost-impossible task for any club that is charged with facing them, currently. Bournemouth have now lost three on the trot and simply face too great a task in City this week.

Huddersfield Town vs Brighton
Draw ($3)

Huddersfield

Last 5 Matches: LLWDW
Ladder Position: 15th
Goal Difference: -14 (GF 8, GA 22)

Brighton

Last 5 Matches: WWLLD
Ladder Position: 12th
Goal Difference: -5 (GF 14, GA 19)

This looks like being one of the better contests in Week 14 and there is a case to be made for both the Terriers and Seagulls. Aaron Mooy was in vintage form for Town last week; netting two goals and playing an instrumental role in his club’s second win of the season. That result has lifted Huddersfield into fifteenth and away from danger, for the time being. Brighton are winless in their last three Premier League fixtures but secured a tough draw against Leicester last week. I’m happy to sit on this fence here.

Crystal Palace vs Burnley
Both Teams to Score ($3)

Palace

Last 5 Matches: LDLLD
Ladder Position: 16th
Goal Difference: -9 (GF 8, GA 17)

Burnley

Last 5 Matches: LLLDL
Ladder Position: 17th
Goal Difference: -14 (GF 13, GA 27)

This won’t be one of the better matches in the Premier League this season, but there’s a case to be made for both clubs and plenty of value to be found in betting. Palace will be full of confidence after keeping Manchester United to a goalless draw last week, but it was another loss for the Clarets who still sit perilously close to the drop zone. Palace deserve favouritism, but Burnley haven’t been awful in front of goal and I think that both clubs can find the back of the net.

Newcastle United vs West Ham
Newcastle to Win ($2.55)

Newcastle

Last 5 Matches: LDWWW
Ladder Position: 13th
Goal Difference: -5 (GF 11, GA 16)

West Ham

Last 5 Matches: LDWDL
Ladder Position: 14th
Goal Difference: -8 (GF 14, GA 22)

It’s thirteenth versus fourteenth when Newcastle host West Ham early on Sunday morning. The resurgence is well and truly alive for Newcastle, who recorded a third-consecutive win over Burnley on Tuesday morning and who have subsequently climbed into fourteenth. West Ham (and any other team) can be forgiven for last weekend’s thrashing at the hands of city, but their form has been pretty shaky regardless and they face another big task here.

Leicester City vs Watford
Draw ($3.30)

Leicester

Last 5 Matches: LDWDD
Ladder Position: 10th
Goal Difference: +1 (GF 18, GA 17)

Watford

Last 5 Matches: WWLDL
Ladder Position: 9th
Goal Difference: 0 (GF 17, GA 17)

This is set to be one of the better contests in Week 14 of the Premier League and it’s extremely difficult to split Leicester City and Watford. Leicester held on for a draw with Mat Ryan’s Brighton despite going down to ten men, while Watford became the latest team to experience the class of Liverpool and enter this match off the back of a 3-0 loss. This match has draw written all over it and I am happy to take the $3.30 currently on offer.

Southampton vs Manchester United
United to Win ($1.90)

Southampton

Last 5 Matches: DDLDL
Ladder Position: 18th
Goal Difference: -14 (GF 10, GA 24)

United

Last 5 Matches: DWWLD
Ladder Position: 7th
Goal Difference: -1 (GF 20, GA 21)

Bottom-three club Southampton will have their hands full with Manchester United early on Sunday morning. It obviously hasn’t been the best season on record for the league powerhouse, but they remain a class above the Saints, who were beaten by last-placed Fulham in Week 13.

Chelsea vs Fulham
Chelsea Win to Nil ($2)

Chelsea

Last 5 Matches: DWWDL
Ladder Position: 4th
Goal Difference: +17 (GF 28, GA 11)

Fulham

Last 5 Matches: LLLLW
Ladder Position: 20th
Goal Difference: -19 (GF 14, GA 33)

The first of two London Derbies this weekend, but the difference in quality between Chelsea and Fulham is huge and the home side should be winning easily. The Cottagers simply have not been able to make an impression on the league in their first season back in the top-flight and while they did record a rare win last weekend, this is surely too great a task.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs to Win ($2.70)

Arsenal

Last 5 Matches: WDDDW
Ladder Position: 5th
Goal Difference: +12 (GF 28, GA 16)

Spurs

Last 5 Matches: WLWWW
Ladder Position: 3rd
Goal Difference: +12 (GF 23, GA 11)

The North London Derby is always an outstanding fixture, and this looks like it will really live up to the billing. Spurs have been in terrific form recently and that was consolidated last weekend when they beat Chelsea with relative ease. This is a similarly tough prospect, particularly at The Emirates but I think that Spurs will win.

Liverpool vs Everton
Over 3.5 Goals ($2.35)

Liverpool

Last 5 Matches: WWDWW
Ladder Position: 2nd
Goal Difference: +21 (GF 26, GA 5)

Everton

Last 5 Matches: WLWDW
Ladder Position: 6th
Goal Difference: +5 (GF 20, GA 15)

The Merseyside Derby is one of the most spiteful rivalries in English football and this looks like being a great edition. Liverpool have been in devastating form recently, but they’ll need to continue to find if they are to overcome an Everton side that has flown under the radar in their climb to sixth. If betting is anything to go by, absolutely nothing is expected of the Toffees here and that could play to their favour.
