A smart field of ten three-year-olds has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and there is plenty of value around every horse in betting. Chris Waller will saddle two live chances in the featured sprint, but Zousain looms as his best after opening as the $4 favourite in 2018 Coolmore Stud Stakes betting. Zousain has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire career since debuting in February and stamped himself as a horse to follow during a smart winter preparation, which delivered a win in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and close-up second in each of the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce (1350m) and Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m). He has returned to the races a far-more furnished prospect this time and ran fourth in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up, before a smart second behind stable mate The Autumn Sun in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last time out. He’s been freshened for this race and will jump from barrier 4 with James McDonald in the saddle. Lean Mean Machine has also returned to the track in excellent condition and could prove to be the value in Coolmore Stud Stakes betting at $11. The Zoustar colt was also impressive during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and posted his first career black type win in the BRC Sires’ Produce, but arguably didn’t get the trip in the JJ Atkins and was sent to the paddock. His run to win The Run To The Rose was absolutely huge first-up this time, and he struck on well to finish fifth in the Golden Rose most-recently. He is clearly a smart fresh performer and jockey Hugh Bowman should be able to tuck in behind the early pace from barrier 3, before calling on his turn of foot. Group 1 winner Written By has returned to racing in typically smart form this time and has opened as the sole occupant of the second line of Coolmore Stud Stakes betting at $4.20. Written By won each of his first four career starts when he debuted in autumn, including the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in February after taking up the running. He returned to the paddock after a credible fourth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and has so far won a 1000m dash at Caulfield and the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) this time in. Sunlight has continued to receive plenty of interest in Coolmore Stud Stakes betting and she is the $4.80 market mover at the time of publish, having opened at $5. The Magic Millions winners resumed this time for a credible second behind Nature Strip in the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville before returning to fillies’ company and winning both the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m). Her run in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) was too bad to be true and she’ll enjoy a step back into three-year-old company again.
