The defending Stanley Cup champions are in action against the Bruins at home and I am confident that they can begin their title defence on their right foot. Caps forward Tom Wilson will spend the first 20 games of the season on the sideline following his ugly pre-season suspension, but they have maintained nearly the same team that lifted last season’s trophy and will take a power of beating in front of their home fans.
Two of Canada’s biggest franchises will square off in Vancouver this afternoon and we’re set for an even contest. The Flames have bolstered their stocks with a couple of handy attacking options while the Canucks, who have not been at their best for a couple of seasons now, are still rebuilding. Calgary deserve favouritism but in Game 1, at Vancouver, it think that this will be a draw after regular time.
There’s plenty of Europa League action slated for tonight and Turkish giants Fenerbahce are offered something of a ‘soft kill’ in the form of Slovakian qualifiers Spartak Trnava. It has not been the best start to this season’s Turkish Super Lig for Fenerbahce, but they boast a talented and deep roster, and really do look to have a class edge over tonight’s rivals.
