Korodon has been racing well this time and looks ready to peak third-up on the Gold Coast this afternoon. The Shamoline Warrior gelding took up the running over 1400m here first-up and was entitled to weakened late, but boxed on well to finish fourth, before producing another good effort over a mile at Doomben two weeks ago. This is a step back in class from that race, he’ll carry only 54.5kgs and has the notable advantage of Jeff Lloyd in the saddle.
Sizzling Ace will have her first start for master trainer Chris Waller this afternoon and should prove hard to beat in Race 4 at Warwick Farm. Formerly saddled by Toby Edmonds in Queensland, the Sizzling filly recoded a number of quality performances and results as a two-year-old; finishing fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and third in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) most notably. This is a drop in class and she’s drawn to get a gun run from barrier 4, with the added advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
Deity has returned to the track in outstanding form this time and she looks well placed for a return to the winner’s stall this afternoon. The Exceed And Excel mare has finished worse than second only once through her five career starts to date and resumed for a smart win over 1000m here at Warwick Farm in August, before flying home to finish second by the flare of a nostril on soft going at Canterbury last time out. She’ll enjoy a return to a track rated in the ‘Good’ range and looks to have a class edge over today’s rivals.
Godolphin will saddle four live chances in the penultimate at Warwick Farm today, but I think that Schubert represents the best value at his current each-way price ($9 at the time of publish). The Lonhro gelding has posted two wins from three first-up attempts previously and easily accounted for a decent field at Hawkesbury when he last resumed in March. He’s performed well in a couple of Sydney barrier trials in the lead-up to this race and should be fighting out the finish of this race, even with 60.5kgs in tow.
