Chiang Mai Express was outstanding in her debut preparation and will take plenty of beating in the first at Goulburn this afternoon. The Bullet Train mare was too good for a maiden field on debut at Queanbeyan, before making a competitive transition to city company when a close-up second in a Warwick Farm sprint. Jason Collet has plenty of options from the rails draw and the horse is clearly the one to beat.
Sleek Acheeva has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career and looks well placed to fight out the finish at Donald this afternoon. The Anacheeva gelding does not win out of turn, but he has posted one win and seven minors through only eleven starts and was a dominant winner at Casterton two starts back, before finishing second over 1300m at Coleraine last time. This is a step up in class, but he is drawn well and rock-hard fit.
American has only made four appearances at the races so far and she looks up to winning a race of this quality at Donald this afternoon. The daughter of Americain led all the way over 2000m at Mildura two runs back before tiring late after a tough run on-pace at Swan Hill last start. The slight drop back to 2000m will be ideal and with improvement, she’ll be right in the finish again.
Bold Missile has not been seen at the races since May, but he is a horse that typically flies fresh and he is good enough to fight out the finish of the last at Donald today. The Smart Missile gelding took up the running at Kyneton first-up last time and never appeared in doubt, before producing a couple of fair efforts when stepping up in grade and ultimately returning to the paddock. He’s drawn ideally on the rails today and will give them something to chase.
