Newcastle: Race 2 (2:25pm AEDT)
No. 1 Nicco Lad

Nicco Lad has been racing extremely well this time and will appreciate a step back in class at Newcastle today. The Nicconi gelding was unwanted in betting through his first two starts this time, but ran a close second first-up before taking out a classy Wednesday race at Canterbury in September. He didn’t quite look up to the class of a Saturday race at Randwick last time out, but is well and truly up to a race of this standard and he’ll make all his own luck on-pace.

Kyneton: Race 6 (4pm AEDT)
No. 6 Hard Faith

Hard Faith has not been seen at the races since June, but she is a horse with plenty of talent and is worth consideration at an each-way price ($17/$4.50 at the time of publish) this afternoon. The All Too Hard mare produced several impressive performances and results through her most recent campaign and put together a couple of nice wins amongst similar company to this at Moe and Sale most notably. She is drawn well and will take plenty of benefit from a recent Cranbourne trial into this race. John McArdle’s horses are flying and it would not be a surprise to see Hard Faith winning at long odds.

Kyneton: Race 7 (4:30pm AEDT)
No. 1 San Remo

San Remo has been charged with carrying topweight this afternoon but looks to have a class edge over his rivals at Kyneton and is primed for a return to winning form. The Frankel gelding has produced several decent efforts of late and hit the line well to finish fourth over 2400m at Sandown two starts back, despite having to do plenty of work early in the running. He was last seen finishing third after another tough on-pace performance at Ballarat and is rock-hard fit for this assignment.

Newcastle: Race 6 (4:55pm)
No. 6 Ligulate

Ligulate is a horse with plenty of ability and he will be tough to beat in the sixth at Newcastle this afternoon. Ligulate broke his maiden in style upon resuming in August and has since been racing in far tougher company than he finds this afternoon, having last been seen finishing sixth in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m) at Randwick. He’ll obviously be far more effective in this company and gas conditions to suit.
