Winx Dominant in George Main Betting

Equine superstar Winx will make her second campaign appearance in Saturday’s Group 1 George Main Stakes (Colgate Optic White Stakes) at Royal Randwick and is the dominant $1.10 favourite in betting. The facts and figures speak for themselves and with each race and win, the legend of Winx only expands. The seven-year-old is now undefeated for more than three years, twenty-six consecutive starts, nineteen Group 1 races and three Cox Plates. Set for a potential and record-break fourth Cox Plate win this spring, Winx returned to the races for an utterly dominant win in her namesake race; the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick in August and she is set to be even better second-up and stepping out in trip. Regular hoop Hugh Bowman takes the ride from the ideal barrier 3 and it is tough imagining anything beating Winx in the George Main Stakes 2018. Chris Waller will saddle five of the eight horses in the 2018 George Main Stakes field and there has been a steadily flow of support for Winx’s stable mate Unforgotten in betting, who is $13 into $12 at the time of publish. Unforgotten enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence during the recent Autumn Carnival and ended her campaign with a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m). Having resumed this time for a credible sixth in the Winx Stakes, the Fastnet Rock mare delivered an impressive field a comfortable defeat in the Group 1 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago and will only improve third-up. It would take a monumental effort to end Winx’s streak, but Unforgotten definitely looms as the biggest danger in the George Main Stakes, particularly after drawing ideally (barrier 4). Interestingly figuring as the only other horses currently available at George Main Stakes odds of less-than $20, multiple Group 1 champion Le Romain weathered a tough run in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) two weeks ago but can find his way into the money on Saturday. Le Romain went stride-for-stride with Trapeze Artist before finishing a close second in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) in autumn and carried his form into the Brisbane winter, returning placings in both the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) and Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1350m). Having won the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) with ease first-up this time, the son of Hard Spun is rock-hard fit and rarely runs a bad race. Ace High was outstanding to the line two weeks ago and could prove the value in George Main Stakes betting at current $26/$2.45 odds. The two-time Group 1 champion suffered abrasions in the Winx Stakes first-up but showed no signs of ill health when he flew home to finish second in the Chelmsford most-recently. The wide draw isn’t a problem, particularly in this small field and he will look to finish over the top of his rivals once more in the George Main Stakes.
