Redzel On Track for The Everest After Concorde Stakes Win

Redzel has stamped himself as the horse to beat in The Everest again following an outstanding performance and strong win over classy company in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

The son of Snitzel won this race as a first point of call on his way to winning the inaugural Everest last year but was interestingly a drifter in Concorde Stakes betting as punters rallied around Invincible Star.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Kerrin McEvoy allowed the horse to stride forward and take a position on-pace, alongside Invincible Star; ensuring plenty of tempo would be injected into the contest early.

Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, McEvoy allowed the horse to go through his gears and was greeted with a typically stunning turn of foot as Redzel savaged the line for an easy win over a fast-finishing Kaepernick; Invincible Star boxing on fairly for third.

McEvoy was glowing in his praise of the talented six-year-old immediately after the race.

“It’s good to see him back,” McEvoy said.

“A few people jumped off, but he’s been pleasing us at home. Just thrilled to have him back in winning form.

“Peter and Paul know him back-to-front and in two weeks’ time we’ll go again. Then a nice little rest into The Everest. I’m looking forward to it, it’s a great time of year to be on these types of horses’ backs.

“He travelled really well today. At the top of the rise, J Mac (James McDonald, Invincible Star) should have pressed the button on his mare and I was still cruising, so I just bided my time.

“He always had the race there in his grasp and as you can see, he’s still strong on the bridle so he’s pulled up well again.”

Redzel has extended his record to thirteen wins and seven minors from twenty-six career starts after winning the Concorde Stakes 2018 and has earned nearly $9 million for connections.

Redzel is the $5.50 second favourite in early 2018 The Everest betting.
