Week 6 of the Premier League boasts a full complement of matches and the action is underway from Saturday night when Fulham host Watford at Craven Cottage.
Reigning champions Manchester City are offered another great opportunity at points when they travel to Cardiff, while Chelsea will attempt to make it six from six when they host West Ham.
The week will draw to a close in London on Monday morning, when Arsenal face Everton.
Fulham return home and face another big task when they host the in-form Watford in Week 6’s opener on Saturday night.
Understandably, the Cottagers failed to contain Manchester City last weekend and enter this match off the back of a comfortable 3-0 loss. That was their third for the season and they are in danger of dropping further down the ladder if they don’t take anything from this match. Striker Aleksander Mitrovic has been a shining light for Fulham and remains second in Golden Boot standings, having found the back of the net on four occasions.
Watford have been simply outstanding through the early stages of this Premier League season but do enter this fixture after suffering their first defeat to Manchester United. Having leaked two first-half goals, the Hornets fought back into the contest thanks to a 65th strike from Andre Gray but ultimately, they did finish on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line.
Watford look to have been forgotten in betting here and I am more than happy to take $3 for them to win.
Palace will be confident of making it two-in-a-row for this first time this season when they welcome Newcastle to Selhurst Park on Saturday night. The Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak in a physical battle with Huddersfield last weekend, with Wilfried Zaha’s 38th-minute strike enough to take all three points. That result has lifted them into twelfth in overall standings and with plenty of scope towards further improvement.
Newcastle are amidst a torrid start to their campaign and suffered another loss to Arsenal last weekend. With no wins and only one draw to their name, they are languishing in nineteenth position and face a tough task, probably for the remainder of the season.
Palace have not looked terrible despite their less-than convincing record and I am confident they can add another win to the books in Week 6.
The most one-sided match in Week 6 of the Premier League looks set to take place when Manchester City travel to Wales on Saturday night.
It was business as usual for the reigning champions when they dispatched Fulham with complete ease last weekend and they remain third in overall standings, behind the undefeated Chelsea and Liverpool.
Cardiff are still winless since returning to the Premier League, but a couple of draws have meant they are just above the drop zone in seventeenth. A 4-1 flogging at the hands of Chelsea will almost certainly be compounded this weekend.
Liverpool will attempt to make it six from six when they host Southampton at Anfield on Saturday night.
The Reds really do look the real deal in 2018/19 and they continued on their way with a 2-1 win over Spurs in Week 5; arguably the most important of their campaign so far. Their multidimensional attack has only strengthened and so-far, it’s Sadio Mane leading the way with four goals for the club.
Southampton have been far from their best, but they have managed enough points to stay away from the drop zone and can climb as high as ninth with their second win of the season. The likelihood of that happening, however is small and Liverpool look primed for another win.
Leicester City will be confident of securing another three competition points when they host the winless Huddersfield Town on Saturday night.
The Foxes have restored a little pride in their jersey already this season, but they were comfortably accounted for by Bournemouth last weekend and to add insult to injury, will be without captain Wes Morgan for this fixture, who was sent off for his sixty-ninth minute after conceding a second yellow card.
Town were right in the contest with Crystal Palace last weekend, but they ultimately couldn’t find an equaliser and suffered another defeat. Things won’t get any easier for the Terriers and they really need to start winning, if they aren’t to be staring down the barrel of demotion all season.
Manchester United will take plenty of confidence into Week 6 after ending Watford’s undefeated start to the season. The Red Devils struck twice in the first half to set up last weekend’s result and signs are good moving forward. A win over Wolves could see United climb into the top four, pending other results.
Wolves are undefeated since Week 2 and they are seeking a hattrick of wins, having triumphed over West Ham and Burnley most recently. This is obviously a step up in class, but they did enough to take a point away from Manchester City at the Etihad a few weeks ago and United are not currently at the same class as their crosstown rivals.
I am confident that Wolves can take at least something from this and a draw looms as a potentially lucrative betting play.
One of the more intriguing contests of Week 6 could materialise when Burnley host Bournemouth at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Burnley are yet to find the form that delivered their best-ever premier league season to date and they are anchored to the bottom of the table, having drawn only one match and lost four. They were beaten again by Wolves last weekend and face a tough task again, in the form of the Cherries.
Bournemouth have enjoyed a glittering start to the season and enter this match off the back of another outstanding performance and crushing defeat of Leicester City, in which they netted four goals. They look capable of competing even with the league’s best this season and have already been a handful for a few top-line clubs.
Somehow Burnley are favourites in head-to-head betting and I am more than happy to get behind Bournemouth again.
Spurs will travel to Brighton early on Sunday morning and will attempt to stem a losing run of form.
It has not been happy hunting for Spurs in their last two matches and they have watched their undefeated season come crashing down, losing to both Watford and Liverpool. They were unlucky not to take anything from last weekend’s match and will be confident of reversing their fortunes, as the expense of Brighton.
Brighton’s impressive win over Manchester United has not been franked and they have only managed draws with Fulham and Southampton at their two most-recent outings. A win over Spurs would see plenty of confidence poured into their campaign, but that is certainly easier said than done.
Spurs should be returning to winning form and there is still some value in head-to-head betting.
The weekend’s solitary London derby will see West Ham attempt to take something away from impressive competition leaders Chelsea.
The Hammers finally secured a vital win over Everton in Week 5 and they have subsequently climbed off the bottom of the table, at least momentarily. It was a major improvement on anything that they had mustered prior and a repeat of that performance would see them right in the contest with Chelsea.
Chelsea have been simply outstanding this season and they enter this fixture with five wins from as many matches. Eden Hazard has been particularly devastating and leads the way in the race to the Golden Boot with five goals.
This really is a mismatch and even after last week’s win, it’s tough imagining West Ham sticking with Chelsea for 90 minutes.
Week 6 will draw to a close at the Emirates when Arsenal square off with Everton, in what should be a decent contest.
The Gunners were Week 5 winners, but they are certainly yet to find their best form this campaign and will need to improve if they are to see off Everton. A 2-1 win over strugglers Newcastle was anything but convincing, but they do remain seventh in overall standings and have the opportunity to step back into the top four.
The Toffees suffered a shock defeat to the previously winless Hammers in Week 5 and will be eager to respond with a big performance against Arsenal. Their form prior to that had been fair, however and they remain in tenth overall leading into this match.
Arsenal are under the odds in head-to-head betting for mine and I believe that Everton are capable of a draw.
