Egyptian Symbol Leads All The Way in Toy Show Quality

Egyptian Symbol has led from start to finish to take out the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

The Stratum mare clearly needed the run when she tailed off to finish at the back of the pack in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) here first-up, but she’s clearly taken plenty of improvement from the run when she pinged the gates and immediately dictated terms for the open field of nine.

Enjoying a carefree run at the fore of the field, Egyptian Symbol kicked clear of her rivals and maintained well enough to the line to withstand a late charge from the well-backed Zestful; Nettoyer boxing on well to round out the minors.

Tim Clark was instrumental in the saddle once more and was pleased that the race panned out as it did.

“It was one of those races that just looked like no speed at all and the plan wasn’t exactly to lead, but just have her come out and sit where she was comfortable,” Clark said.

“She was probably just over-racing within herself slightly, but we were confident that she did have the best turn of foot in the field and if she could just go slow and outsprint them, that would suit.

“She was out on her feet late, but she just did enough.”

Trainer Bjorn Baker revealed that the mare will be headed to stud and revealed a race like The Everest consolation sprint will likely figure as her major spring target.

“I thought she had a class edge – she’s very good on her day and I just can’t believe her price today ($11) because she’s a quality mare and always has been” he said.

“One of the aims when she came in this time was to win $1 million and I think she’s very close now. Really thrilled for the team at home and she’s a mare that we put a lot of effort into, we like her a lot.

“Thrilled to see her back and win like that. It’s just one step at a time, she’s going to be served this year and I’m just hoping I can remain close friends with the connections, so I get the foals; she’s got a mighty pedigree.

“There’s a race like The Everest consolation. Unlike everyone else, I’d probably say we’ll stick to The Everest consolation.”

In taking out the Toy Show Quality, Egyptian Symbol has extended her career record to seven wins and ten minors from only twenty-five starts.
