Geelong will look to complete an ideal lead-in to this year’s AFL finals by delivering the Suns another huge defeat at the Cattery this afternoon. It has not been a season to remember for the Gold Coast franchise and they have been on the receiving end of several huge deficits. Geelong have returned to serious form in 2018 and they really do look like a club that could challenge for this season’s flag. Mad Monday cannot come quickly enough for the Gold Coast.
The inconsistent Titans arrive at the penultimate game of another failed campaign this afternoon and in their way is live premiership hope the Melbourne Storm. While not quite as potent as they were in 2017, the Storm have timed their run to perfection again and enter Round 24 on top of the table. A win here and a win next week would all but sew up another minor premiership and I am confident that they will deliver the Titans a heavy loss.
The second Bledisloe Test will take place at Eden Park this evening and it looks like it will be another heavy loss and year without the famed trophy for the Wallabies. Michael Cheika’s men put in a tough 40-minute display to set only a point behind the All Blacks at half time in Sydney last week, but they were absolutely steamrolled by the World Champions in the second half and eventually left ANZ Stadium on the wrong end of a 38-13 score line. Australia has not beaten New Zealand at Eden Park since 1986 and they face a huge task in breaking the drought tonight.
Reigning champions Manchester City will face new boys Wolverhampton in the opening fixture of Week 3 of the Premier League tonight. City were in a devastating mood last week and leapfrogged Liverpool into top spot after delivering Huddersfield a 6-1 trashing. Wolves have spent big with the hope of earning more than one season in the top league, but their team is yet to gel and they face another tough night at the office in Week 3.
