The Hawks and Cats will lock horns this afternoon in what is always an outstanding affair for fans. Geelong can count themselves unlucky not to be taking winning form into this fixture after losing to reigning premiers and competition leaders the Tigers by only three points. The Hawks snuck past the Dees in their most-recent effort, but they find a far tougher opponent today, whose midfield is really starting to fire. The Cats can get home in another tight one and stamp themselves as genuine finals contenders.
The Sea Eagles will host the Bulldogs on the Northern Beaches today and while this game doesn’t offer a lot to the neutrals, the result could play a key role in which club finishes with the spoon. Neither team has had a season to remember, but both carry winning form into this game after tough efforts against top eight sides the Sharks and Broncos respectively. The Sea Eagles are heavy favourites but have been extremely difficult to trust in betting – they might sneak home, but I am confident that the Bulldogs can at least cover a line currently set at 4 points.
The Premier League is back and we were set for some exciting Week 1 fixtures, including tonight’s fixture between Newcastle and Tottenham. Newcastle are seemingly in disarray as supporters are furious with owner Mike Ashley and the treatment of Manager Rafa Benitez. They have made few signings again and will be relying largely on the same roster that limped home last campaign. Spurs are one of the league’s most dangerous teams and they can begin their campaign with a win.
Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield are expected to be faced with the relegation dogfight this campaign and it will be a baptism of fire in Week 1 when they host league giants Chelsea. The London club look a title threat this season with the arrival of manager Maurizio Sarri and they will be full of confidence heading into Week 1 after securing a couple of key signings. There really is a class difference here and it would not surprise to see many goals scored.
